Hi Caddy Clan
We will be going after August 15th and into the first week of September so the sites should not be as busy as they get earlier in the season and the entertainment, if any will be toned down. I have not really decided about sites but it will be the Ardeche or perhaps the Drome region of Provence, probably one of the sites that accept Camping Cheques as quite a lot accept them after the 18th so it keeps the cost of the holiday down. We are doing a beach side holiday this year so we will be ready for countryside and stunning scenery next year so we will probably avoid the Med coast. I'm not a lover of site entertainment either so it will be nice to find a site that lets you sit on the bar terrace in the evening disturbed by nothing more than background music.
We will definately do the drive over 2 or 3 nights in France both ways which is why we would rather save the trip for next year and do it over 3 weeks. We have driven from the Lot to Calais in one go, nearly 600 miles, sharing the driving, and found it ok but it will be nice to do a long drive at a more leisurely pace. We dont have children to take into consideration but I guess they must be your priority when planning a trip like that. Taking a few days over it and getting the motor rail back sounds like an excellent idea
The Esterel site looks lovely on the website and I like the idea of the bathrooms on the pitch. We are trying them for the first time this year at L'Oree du Bois. The restaurant and facilities all look brilliant and its in a nice area of the med . Esterel was one I considered when we first decided to head south east but I think we will want to be inland next year.
Over the last several years we have done the Lot, Dordogne, Vendee, Loire and Brittany. This year its the Charente Maritime so it is definately the Med for us next year. It is many years since we were last in that area but in those days we flew, hired a car and rented a Gite. Good job OH is a Driving Instructor and nuts about driving with all those miles to cover.
