Hi Floydfan, had the unfortunate experience of encountering one of these warning triangles for real not far from Saumur last week. Turns out there had been an accident involving a motorcycle & a van, the motorcycle was strewn across the carrageway. The warning triangle gave me adequate time to slow down well before the actual incident and it did its job well.
The accident happened in broad daylight & I think that darkness would have aggrivated the situation considerably. As a result of my experience I suggest this should be an idea that is adopted over in the UK, however I also think 3 triangles when towing may be a bit of an overkill though.

Dave.
Fair enough, but it's not me who makes the rules. I just relate them to you guys. You decide whether you want a fine or not.

Just noticed a program on ITV tonight at 8 o'clock. May be of relevance to us all re motoring abroad.
Waiting to see that too. Had it on the sky+ planner for a week.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Hi Angela and Stu, thanks for all the data, not having been abroad I was not aware of the new rulings, having read your posts I find that I actually do conform to these standars apart from having three warning triangles, I have one and a flashing road cone (available her) not sure if the cone would be acceptable but certainly it is visible at night.
Will have to make up a PDF sheet with all the info and add it to my growing collection.
Thanks to the OP for bringing this up, it certainly is more common sense than just rules being made. I also hope that we in the UK will have the same thing added to our rules of the road, may just stop the pile ups that occasionally happen on our roads when someone breaks down, unfortunately I don't think it will stop the rubberneckers! (-;
We have all this stuff as part of our emergency break-down kit anyway. No fire extinguisher in the car but I do take one camping. Two friends were killed by a careless lorry driver when they parked on the hard-shoulder to help after an accident on the A1, not sure if all the hi-viz in the world would have helped them as he basically fell asleep, but I dont drive without.
