While passing that way a few months ago we had to que outside the dock beyond the roundabout for some time late one Friday. We were aware of being looked over by various types that walked down the que a number of times. Your on your own out there and even inside the fence before the gate they were not challenged by the security.

Sounds like Liverpool on a Saturday night.

The window washer problem happens here too , i just keep my window up and put my wipers on , that seems to do the trick !!

wouldn't it be safer to run them down like swiftsure suggests?

We came back through Dunkirk on 5 July, no problem.

We stayed at La Bien Assise for last three nights, while out and about, we noticed around the Eurotunnel terminal there was a heavy police presence, also by Cité Europe. (We went there for shopping as it was raining on our last day!)

This, as others have said is anohter one of the 'moral panics' created .......read 'Folk Devils and Moral panic' by Stanley Cohen to get the full picture but is basically when a minority incident is blown up into a huge moral hysteria fuelled by the media.

The Daily Mail has dubious reports at the best of times. Unfortunately, yes, out of the millions of people who travel abroad each year there will be some who are robbed, have an accident and find selves not covered by insurance, get targeted by timeshare folk etc etc but this is the minority. People just need to keep theri wits about them and not be all 'holiday mode' when they should be a bit more aware of their surroundigns. We have a VW camper and the side access is always locked and we lock front doors at night time religiously.

Yes, quite right....I don't know how anyone could think of not running them over.

Anyway.... if anyone is like me i don't have much left when I come home anyway, were usually on the last few euros!!!! most has been converted into either diesel, tolls or wine......mostly wine!!!! and with all the wine I'm usually struggling on the eyesight thing anyway so probably wouldn't even see them!!

So what are the French Police doing about this then?

Ali

The problem is here not in France - if we didn't keep attracting them then they wouldn't be concentrating near the ports

Its very decent of the French not to just 'solve the problem' by making it as easy as possible for them to get here

BTW
Is Ali short for Alison?

Quite agree, asylum seekers are meant to seek help in the first place of safety but the system appears to have gone to pot.  However making shelters for them even after Sangatte was closed down wasn't very helpful!

Yes Ali is short for Alison.

Ali
