I work in the alps, far too cold for me to ever consider going in my caravan. Brr. Often can reach -27 so its very important to use the more expensive diesel as it can often freeze. Your car will start then stop after a few miles and this will often cause the need to change the fuel filter as it will be full of sludge Winter tyres are a must. We only us vredestein tyres as over the years have given us the best service. Snow chains are a must and practice practice practice fitting them as doing them on your driveway at home is not the same as doing them in thick snow and freezing weather.

Maybe you don`t have the right caravan theclarkes?
Although in many years of taking the caravan the lowest temperature we have ever knowingly camped in was around minus 20 and that was very unusual. However we were never cold. Our German van is very well insulated and has gas central heating should we need it. Our two little fan heaters however always kept us toasty. We also have good quality sleeping bags and take chemical heating packs for that 'just in case'.
You need to have the right caravan and be well prepared to winter camp in the Alps, but its great fun and before fuel prices rose so much it was a cheap way of taking a family skiing!

We are currently in the Tarantaise and the snow high up at Arc 2000 is OK, not much at all in Bourg St Maurice! Roads everywhere were fine.
Snow is forecast for Thursday and will hopefully make everywhere great for Xmas.

We're in la Plagne next door to you in Arc. Brilliant sunny weather since Saturday when we arrived but it could be fun coming down the mountain on Saturday morning if the forecast is correct.
It'll give me a chance to try out the snow socks on the car I suppose
