Hi Nic Stew,

Sorry to hear about your problems and it must have been horrible. However, I think it is important not to state unsubstantiated claims about the use of gas etc. I am wary of these claims, especially as they are essentially require the use of medical anaesthetic gases, which would be very hard to obtain and to administer.

Sorry to be pedantic, especially as you had a terrible experience, but I just feel that it is important.

Hello Nic Stew,

I am so sorry to hear of your experience. I totally agree with you in that, wristbands would be a good idea, I was very suprised that the site we stayed on, being quite large and having many activities did not operate a wristband system.

Patmags, you are right, I probably should not have mentioned the ' gas ', I did think that after I sent my post off and my husband said that I should not have mentioned it - apologies if I upset anyone with that! I PERSONALLY do not know if they used gas or not, it is just what the security guard told management who told the people who had been robbed, as my husband said, maybe the security guard could not catch them and so as not to lose face he said they had gas - who knows?!

Once again, I am really sorry to anyone who has been robbed and apologies for mentioning the gas. Hopefully these campsites will get REALLY strict with their security as Nic Stew said - we are paying good money for our hols!

Happy hols and best wishes,

Jonah.

As I mentioned near the beginning of this thread, people tried to get into our caravan with us in it but our lock held. Those next to us weren't so lucky, but they didn't think anyone had tried to gas them but that they were just very good at what they do. They are so quick and quiet that even those asleep right by the van door didn't wake up. Maybe people think they have been gassed because they can't believe someone could get past them without waking them up but it does happen.

Susie

OR perhaps the security guard was somehow involved, even if only 'turning a blind eye'????  It's not unheard of, especially in this country!

Hello Val,

Yes, I agree with you on that one, I am afraid to say, but that thought did go through my mind!

Best wishes,

Jonah.

dont think we were actually gassed, as we woke at 6.30 when the man on the neighbouring pitch rapped our door, and had only gone to bed around 1.00.  Just found the whole experience disturbing, especially as it was someone on the caravan clubs helpdesk who first asked about the gas, and then a member of campsite staff mentioned it. we had never heard of it, and have since googled and read all the debates on it, and would tend to agree with the urban myth people!

in a foreign country, travelling with kids, and faced with slashed awning and internal blind, along with stolen items. talk of gas was the final straw that made up our minds to move. glad we did as next site seemed more secure, and had a security man patroling all night.

whole experience a wake up call, have now purchased sensor alarm for awning, and will be much more careful about what is left out at night.
