I know it sounds silly, but sometimes it's the people on the site which can make or break a holiday.  We've been lots of times to one site in the Languedoc, and in May this year we were there again - and we hated it!  Somehow it just wasn't our lovely site any more - it was full of noise and people we couldn't relate to.  In fact we moved on after three nights.  However, we went back again in August (for a reason), and this time it was lovely again - a good mix of nationalities, some great three or four generation French families and Dutch couples, who made us feel really welcome.  Our view of the site changed again.

If I'd done a review in May it would have been negative and depressing - and I wouldn't have gone back again.  However, if I'd done a review in August it would have been much more positive.

I know everyone wants different things from a site - but we very much liked Soleil Plage whilst we were there on the section by the river, and I thought the facilities were fine - but that's low season of course.  I'm sorry for anyone who didn't enjoy it - we all put so much into finding our ideal site - but sometimes things can change!

The perfect site probably doesn't exist - and if it did it might be ruined next season. Some don't like SP - We as a family think its fab for reasons I've given many times - but I'm not disabled [as was one of the negative reviewers] and I've never been flooded out like one of the others, I'm only 13 stone so there's plenty of room in the shower for me and I'm happy to hear people enjoying themselves to 23 o'clock [not that you get to hear much of the bar when you are down by the river.] and I like the fact it's isolated [although fairly central; for a whole host of 'attractions'].

I'll be going back and I'm glad people that don't like it won't - not because they are bad people in any way but because they are just different and will no doubt find sites they think are fab - its' not like France has a limited number of them.....

La Palombiere is a lovely site and great swimming pool complex, restaurant bar etc.

We have been there once and would not go again as basically it was too regimented and sorry to say we did not like the owner. He seemed to rule the campsite with a rod of iron. A shame really as it it a lovely site.

Thanks for your remarks Val & TethersEnd it very true what you both have said, so much so I bit the bullet and booked SP for the end of June for 16 nights, quite a relief now, as I was starting to get bogged down with it all, and my husband was going into meltdown with all the different sites I was throwing at him.

Thanks Guys

Bel Ombrage was lovely.  Clean, well run and relaxed site,  and seemed to have quite a lot for children to do (ours are grown up yeay).  They offered a good discount for off season before the end of June and I think they are on the ACSI scheme as well.  Although with little ones you probably will be going August so I can't comment on how the site would be then.  I do agree with Val; sites change according to the mix of people who are there at the time.  Its a strange old world...

Thank you to everyone for your replies.  hAs anyone ever been to Chateau de Fonrives?

Not for a few years but enjoyed it. Mainly French and Dutch. Shady pitches, good pool, 10 mins drive to supermarket. Market a couple of days a week in Villereal is OK as is the Sunday one at Issigeac. Cheap internet cafe in the Tourist Info in the village square.

Monpazier & Biron make good half days out. Good wine to be had locally (well - about 10 km away back towards Bergerac).

However if I'm going that far down I rate the area round Sarlat as more typical Dordogne - we use La Bouysse which is next door to Soliel Plage. Much as I like the area round Fonrives I think staying right on the river makes all the difference.

Hi

We have been to both La Palombiere and Le Peneyrals and loved them both.

Neither are noisy at night  with the exception of one night each week when they have live entertainment.

We have just booked for 2012 at Penyrals
