Now isn't that funny, Moulin de Perie is about the only site we wouldn't go back to - and left early!  It's a while since we were there - and we'd met the owners at several caravan shows, and were 'enticed' by them and their description of the site, to spend some time there.  It was also an early Camping Cheques site.

I liked the pool, with the smell of fennel from all the plants around it, but otherwise we found it gloomy, (it was good weather so it wasn't that), isolated, and with nothing exciting within driving distance.  We also thought the 'Gourmet Night' - heavily advertised and pushed by the owners - was an absolute rip-off, with supermarket pate, Confit de Canard from a tin (we'd had it many times before and knew the brand), and the smallest slice of tarte we'd ever eaten.  We could have had better at the nearest supermarket cafeteria for 7 euros at the time.

We were planning to stay seven nights, but only stayed four and headed for Val de Cantobre for the remainder of our holiday.  Another couple, there at the same time, did the same thing, but they moved on to the Alps.

What about Camping La Bouysse, at Vitrac - beautiful situation on the Dordogne river, three pools, and they have space when you want to go!  It's not expensive, either.  It's next to Soleil Plage, and shares a river beach - so there will be plenty of English families around to make friends with.  'TethersEnd' who posts regularly on here highly recommends to Take-away duck and potatoes.  I've some photos of the rocks opposite both Soleil Plage and La Bouysse, and of the Chateau de Montfort which was within walking distance, just up river.  I'll look them out and put them on.

Or Le Capeyrou, which is near to La Roque Gageac (in my original picture in this thread) and the Chateau at Beynac.  That gets some good reviews on here, and is in a nice sunny situation.

Or Grottes de Roffy, near Sarlat, which appears on their website to have availability when you have to go.  You can't always check on the websites themselves, or rely on them, but at least it's an indicator.

We have a confirmed booking at the Moulin du Roch in Sarlet

We have a confort pitch with elec/water/drainage it was a little more euros but hopefully worth it !

Glad you have got a booking and I am sure you will like Moulin du Roch, its a very nice site. As I said in a previous post we visited friends there whilst we were at Le Paradis and it was a very nice site.

As for places to go you will be spoiled for choice. Sarlat, Domme, Le Roque Geagac and Beynac are quite close. Sarlat market is a must with the largest one on the Saturday but the Wednesday one is somewhat smaller but very good. with either one you will need to go early as parking is a serious problem.

As you are going in high season you may well find parking a bit of a problem at most of the major spots which I have just mentioned. Slightly less busy would be Les Eyzies which is not far from your site and places like Montignac and Terrasson are well within reach. If you go to Montignac from Les Eyzies you will pass Le Paradis on the way.

Monpazier, a bastide town (walled) is well worth a visit as is Belves which you pass on the way to Monpazier.

A drive along the Dordogne river from Sarlat to Soullac is a pleasant run.

I'm sure people will come up with plenty of other ideas.

I seem to always plug this place, but was our best day out in the Dordogne:

http://www.lebournat.fr/    It's a "theme park" of sorts, it's a recreated 19th century French village, complete with old style fairground and lots of craftsmen and so on. My kids were about 3, 6 and 7 when we went and they still talk about the rides and sideshows and so on even now......5 years later!

Other than that, go  to the castle at Castelnaud if you can when the "actors" are there, they do a comedy play a couple of times a day. It's in French, but very easy to get the gist as it's very slapstick-y, kids were falling about at it.

Take a boat ride along the river.

Enjoy icecreams sitting on the banks at La Roque Gageac watching the canoeists go past.

We've been trying to get back to the Dordogne for the last few years but always end up elsewhere!
