Still got to work out where the stops will be - we need to pack and dog walk first so won't be able to leave till 11-12ish, plus it will be a Saturday. Then it will take us roughly 5hours to the tunnel, but we have to allow for traffic issues, so that means we can't get the train until at least 6pm - that leaves little time driving on the other side. But the following day we can't do more than about 7 hours because the dog will sieze up, so that means another irritating stop - and more dosh on accomodation!! I'm going to have to think about this a bit more I think.
Just an idea- but have you thought about the Hull - Rotterdam overnight ferry ? More expensive, but less driving and saves an overnight tent stop.
We have been to switzerland a couple of times and love it, like Arthurdent we stay at Manor farm and use the free bus, also buy the 5 day rail pass, if you go out of season you can use touring cheques at 12.95 each. we trave lon a cheap crossing Dover - Dunkerque for less than 100quid then go via luxemburg to fill up with cheap fuel then down to Eguisheim where we have an overnight stop, next morning its just a few hours to Interlaken, its a majical place, expensive to eat out but the big co-op near the rail station is about same prices as say Waitrose . Hope you have a great time. J x
PazMaz, we have just returned from 2 weeks away hence the late reply but we stayed 8 nights at Familiencampingplatz Aaregg at Brienz. About 10 miles from Interlaken right on the shore of Lake Brienz.Reasonable size pitches, plenty of space and fantastic facilities. Away from the 'buzz' of Interlaken and the main sites but all easily accessible by train/bus/boat/car if a slightly quieter site would be good for the dog(s)
Junfraubahn tickets a good idea especially if the 2 for 1 deal still on.
As for overnighters we stopped near Freiburg (Germany) on way down after staying at Guines form West Yorrkshire. On way back managed all way to Guines in one day due to an early start, reasonable traffic and poor weather making a stop unappealing.Think the dog enjoyed the rest after a week of long walks!
Hope this assists and just doesn't add to your confusion.
