If the tunnels are all open & everything's flowing, we'll just follow the signs.
Won't be the same somehow, now that the bridges & tunnels are done!

What? The bridge is done too?

Is the Mathilde Bridge now open?

We are off to the Vendee next friday and will hit rouen around midnight.

Sadly the bridge isn't completed yet - it will be another month before the Pont Mathilde is open, so please everyone, don't think all the roadworks are completed.  The tunnels mentioned were closed in one direction, and traffic  diverted.  Both tunnels are now open but THE BRIDGE ISN'T.

Think i am going to do the A29 and Pont De Brotonne route. It just seems a more straight forward approach all round.

We travelled south via Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres, Orleans etc on 19 July. It was Saturday lunchtime when we reached the main tunnel after the A28. We have taken this route many times before and with the Mathilde bridge repair unfinished we planned to take the D6015 towards Pont de L'Arche and join the N154 at Louviers. No issues with the route - highly recommend it, however we did get stuck in traffic at the exit from the tunnel before we turned off onto the D6015. Don't know reason for high volume of traffic, but this slowed us up by approx 10 mins or so - not too bad for a Sat lunchtime, and anyway 90% of the traffic jam continued into Rouen after we turned off so we were quite pleased all round. Have no qualms about using this route in reverse when we travel homebound in a couple of weeks. Hope this helps those who have yet to decide "how to deal with Rouen". Incidentally by taking this route I noticed we avoided the ten or so very busy roundabouts as you navigate through Rouen the Pont Mathilde way - well worth bearing in mind as many HGV's frequent this route too!
Regards J

I think we are going to head for the Pont de Brotonne via Yvetot when we go in August.

Looking at the map it looks to be the off the N27 onto the D929, then the D131 on to the D490, then the D313 joining the N28.

Does that sound about right? Has anyone done this route? If so, is the junction joining the N28 a simple enough affair?

Also on my mind is Le Mans; what is it like going through there, as it seems to be another straight through the centre of town job.

Cheers in advance
Bill

Sorry, me again!!

Just looking further on our route, the via michelin route takes us via Tours. To me, on the map it would seem more direct to head to the West of Le Mans and down the D roads to Saumur, joining the A10 south of Niort.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes that's correct. Once you get on the D929 there is a "pont de Brotonne" sign at every roundabout/junction and then after the bridge you follow the signs for the A13 and when you get to the A13 junction follow the signs for Alencon/Le Mans.

It is a completely stressless route.

If you are heading for Saumur and unless you desperately want to see Le Mans Centre I would go via the A11 towards Angers and then the A85 to Saumur

Ken
