Thanks longcol, rillettes sounds lovely. I'll try that. I've read about confit de Canard definitely on my to try list.

Rose wine, my favourite

I had to grin Lizex on your comment regarding brioche and ham - we've just come back from a weekend camping, and there were some people a few tents up for us who insisted on shouting to their kids on the play area "would you like a slice of bacon in a brioche?", not once but numerous times, and then added "would you like a fried egg in your brioche?"..... My husband was sitting their tutting like a grumpy old man, not at the shouting at the kids so the whole campsite could hear, but putting bacon and egg in brioche :)

LOL Debbie. My lad was a nightmare to feed until he was really quite big. Having spent all year feeding him the 'hidden vegetables' recipes and generally trying to be responsible parents we found our priorities changed on holiday (well, you can't rugby tackle them and force feed broccoli in full view of the other campers, can you). So long as he was eating something vaguely in a food group and running round in the sun we figured 2 weeks a year wouldn't hurt. He grew up ok in the end but is quite a conservative eater.

Mucker That sounds like something my OH or his brothers would do. I think I may have married one of your relatives.

I;d agree about the melons. If you don't refrigerate them they taste just like a sunny day. And apricots are also a good buy as you don't get them so often here.

Actually ... brioche isn't all that sweet ... unless you get the one with chocolate in. I wouldn't have a fried egg on that!

Make sue you try Cabernet d'Anjou. It's the best rose and it is perfect for drinking in the heat.

Prepare for Sunday closing - and long lunch closing for shops.
Loo roll - many sites don't supply it.

Try Pre Fou if you like garlic bread 9comes in differemnt flavours as well including chorizo, goats cheese and garlic) and try lots of different wines to find a favourite or four to bring home.
Just remember the really cheaper wines taht taste fine over lunch in the sun won't usually keep so bring what you plan on drinking within next couple of months only, unless paying a bit more :)
