I've been between sites and out of contact, but it's great to hear that you have got a site.
With young family to entertain my heart went out to you. Any of us could have been in similar circumstances. Anyone would help stranded holidaymakers and it's nice to know you have been fixed up. Even if it's not what you had planned.
Maybe the queues will be gone by Sunday so what should I do with all this water?
I've only just seen your post or I would have offered some advice earlier. I'm SO GLAD to hear that you've got sorted. We've broken down a few times on the Continent over the years and I really sympathise.
If you are still wanting a tow car? If yes, are you a Caravan Club member as on 3 separate occasions the CC's Red Pennant Insurance have provided us with hire-cars with towbars after breakdowns in France and Italy. I know that you're not insured with them but they may be able to point you in the right direction for suitable hire car companies.
Previous to taking out RP insurance we broke down when covered by Britannia Rescue - they too gave us the "no cars with towbar available line"
So glad you got sorted. We broke down in Germany and had the good fortune (if you can call it that), to find that there is a Mitsubishi garage in Lechbruck where we were going, so ADAC towed us there. They looked at the car right away and €60 later told us it was fixed. It wasn't, stopped again a few days later. It turned out to be the manifold full of carbon, one very big lump. €1,080 later.
It has been going perfectly ever since. (Oh, and ladies, the "boss" who fixed it was gorgeous!) We have the carbon as a gift from Germany which made us all laugh. Just as well they spoke English too.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Hi everyone
Just wanted to give you the final installment to our holiday breakdown.
After 10 days we were able to continue the holiday however we chose to stay in France as now Germany was going to be a trek. As soon as we collected our car we connected it to the caravan to find that the tow company truck had blown all our lights. It was just another problem!! However once we realised this we replaced all the bulbs and drove to Normandy . All in all this was a stressful experience so we decided to sail back to the UK from a closer port and our insurance company paid for this. Although I was insured through green flag , it was part of my royalties bank account. Whilst compiling a list of our complaints , which I hadn't sent and was even worse than I thought it would be, I was contacted by my insurance company whilst still in France . They firstly could not apologise enough and offered to cover all my costs and compensate us for ruining our holiday. They assigned me a case manager who dealt with me directly. When it came to the final settlement they did let us down a little bit however it came to a point where we wanted an end to it so agreed.
i need to be more prepared for next time I think. My insurance company seemed happy to pay but didn't have the resources to accommodate or facilitate us.
Putting it all down to life experience and it's been a great source of entertainment for ourselves and our friends. 😀😀
