Berriow- you would !!

The idea of being idle on holiday would drive me nuts. I often go out in the evening and do a few miles, I just need the exercise. I think the work fidget springs to mind.

We recently had a week in Italy, and we flew and stayed in hotels.....boy I couldn't wait get moving again. Even though I walked my socks off round Venice, I still hankered for 2 wheels.

Ina, this is my appeal too.

We have a map and off we go. A scooter is a bike without a seat.....take a look at them. Mine has 16" wheels, I do about 8 miles an hour and enjoy every minute.

We'll take the road bikes too , so that we can get some decent miles in, but this is ideal for the local town or going up the ski lift the scoot down at great speed.

My scooter is the same as the man who rode the 'end to end'    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/11827406/Meet-the-man-who-travelled-from-Lands-End-to-John-OGroats-...-by-scooter.html

Interesting article. I hadn't seen those before.

Fantastic, good for you :)

Ina - they are a fairly new concept here, despite every child under 12 having one.

The problem is that we do not have dedicated cycle ways that are a safe distance from traffic, and the British reserve. I get looked atas if I have two heads, yet in France it is so normal.

I saw them in italy, did a google search, came up with a company in London, contacted them to find tat they are manufactured in Manchester !!!!

Well, you learn something new every day as they say!

Agree with your comments re not having dedicated cycleways, which are safe. What you often get over here is some bikes painted on the road surface at the edge of the road, then all of a sudden it says END. And then where are you supposed to go? That's providing you haven't already had to go onto the road due to parked cars on the cycle strip.

But we digress from the OP....YES, bikes every time!

No. You're quite right, of course, Cat.
It doesn't LOOK my sort of thing, and at worst, I have nothing more than "a bit of a sore knee from time to time", so when someone say's it's actually helping with their arthritis in the knee, as well as elsewhere, who am I to argue?

If I ever bump into you, you'd better at least let me have a go, so you can say "I told you so"!

Personally, I seriously think you should start a specific thread for this (presuming it doesn't break the forum rules?)

Just read your linky blog, and must say, I found it rather entertaining.
I'd advise at this stage, that whilst gel seats are fine in their own right, you may also want to consider gel pants! That's right... cycling pants with a gel pad in 'em! Nice and snug, worn as a liner to cycling shorts, or indeed as pants under normal shorts, a skirt, or even jeans.
Even the cheapo ones I got from Aldi seem bloody marvellous to me (and Muckerette has something similar from G.O.) so Lord knows how good some half decent ones would be. I'd certainly try some, if you haven't already (You never mentioned them in your blog).

As for the sponsoring, I'm off on my hols a week tomorrow, so desperately saving up so I can afford the odd Una caņa & tapa in the baking sunshine, so as I'm sure you can appreciate, my support may have to wait a while. At least I have the same 30 weeks to save up that you have to get yourself up to scratch for such a challenge (of which I have the utmost respect towards you both!). It goes without saying, if I bring any unused cents back, they'll go straight in the piggy bank... although I do plan to save any Euro notes for when we take our bikes to France in September, but hey, every cent counts, as they say.

Then of course, there's the small matter of "The good cause"...

"In the last 40 years, the survival rate for pancreatic cancer hasn't improved at all."

Coming 36.5 years (Sept 1979) after this particular form of "C" took my mother, at the ripe old age of 44, I have to admit I find that lack of improvement somewhat shocking. Disturbingly so! From actual diagnosis, it took her from us in just 16 very short, and rather swift, weeks.

So as you can see, this "good cause" is just about the "best cause", for me personally, so rest assured I will fight tooth and nail, and sweat blood and tears, to keep trudging through your long winded blog, and saving up every loose coin I can get my hands on, whilst you just plod on getting a little fitter each week, a little healthier each day, and a little less ruddy faced each month, sat on yer (padded) ar5e, thinking of that lovely second honeymoon you and "Steve" (or whatever his name is!) are both swanning off to in November!

This is not going to be easy of course... reading blogs isn't my strong point... but hey, it all comes back to that good cause, I suppose.

oh yeah... best o' luck to you both too... I suppose!
