Thinking of heading to Pors Peron next year, Brittany is so convenient for us from the Rosslare - Roscoff ferry. Berriow - is is true they're building a swimming pool for next year ?
OP, take a step back for a while. Give yourself time to read guide books, look at photos, etc, and then pick a region you want to go to. At that stage you can start thinking about what ferry you want and what site you want to go to. As a basic starter : Normandy has all the D-Day stuff but can be cold and wet. Brittany is different from the rest of France, more Celtic, and tends to have better weather than Normandy. Loire is full of chateau and lots of places to visit and tends to have better weather than Brittany. Vendee is where the serious weather starts, but imo there isn't so much to do. Further South in Charente-Maritime is warmer again. By now you're 6 hrs from Cherbourg, any farther probably requires overnight stops. Those are the most popular regions, especially for first time visitors. After a few years you start to think about the East (Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace) and South (Auvergne, Dordogne, Lot, Provence).
So my advice (feel free to ignore  ) is to take your time and decide what you want to do - lie in the sun / see sights / beaches / inland rivers / etc and go from there. For what its worth I always recommend Loire for a first visit - quite "French", close to the ports, good weather, lots to do - it only lacks the sea really.
