We've done the journey back from the Dordogne to East Midlands in one go a few times - but after last year we said Never Again. On those occasions we left at 11am and got home about 230 am U.K. Time. So leaving tomorrow and will drive up to Rouen then overnight in a hotel then up to home via tunnel. We are towing now but even if we weren't we won't ever do that much in one go it's just too hard going and makes driving unsafe. You just can't concentrate that long. We have also done home to Lake Garda in two days - that was hard going due to traffic at Mont Blanc.

We did the Dordogne in one go this year, with a six hour delay at Dover on the way. Left my sister's house in Leicestershire at about 21.00 on the Friday night and arrived in the Dordogne at 19.00 on the Saturday evening after also having stopped to do a supermatket shop on the way down. It was a lot easier than I had expected. We weren't towing and avoided queues at toll booths by having a toll tag. We shared the driving and let the kids help with the navigating, allowing the other driver to have a nap in the back.
I wouldn't try doing this distance with the caravan, or if we couldn't share the driving between us.
We had a three night break at Tours and one night at Dunkirk on the way back.
Tiredness on the road leads to poor decisions and accidents. However despite knowing that I have driven home to Inversneckie from the Portsmouth and the tunnel in one go.
This year we did the overnight crossing from Caen then hit the road Portsmouth at 7.00.
Dropped family at Gatwick to fly home then set off.
Gatwick at 9.00
Carlisle at 3.00
Glasgow at 5.00
Home at 9.00.
I had options to stop if I felt tired and would have used them.
I always break the journey on the way south, usually in Warrington.
