That will be part of their repatriation package. Think it will be standard to make sure your car arrives home.

But it isn't part of the travel insurance as suggested, it is part of the Brittania rescue service provided by Nationwide as part of their Flex plus benefits.

Red Pennant 3xcost of ADAC and only for duration of your holiday not 12 months as ADAC is.

So to conclude.....

There are several kinds of insurance

travel (& EHIC) and euro/foreign breakdown.

Just need to make sure you are covered but don't pay twice for the same things.

Decide how important certain things are - EHIC may be enough cover for you, but for our family, we have the travel insurance which is paid monthly through our bank.

It is foolish to travel in Europe with Caravan or Motorhome without the three below.

Travel Insurance

Breakdown cover for Car and Caravan/Motorhome

EHIC.

I agree with DiPhil. Following an accident outside Cahors, on the first day of our holiday - one phone call to Red Pennant whilst sitting on the motorway hardshoulder saw the van and car collected, us in a taxi heading for a hotel room and subsequent calls ensured we had a hire car, static caravan hire all on the site at La Romieu we were heading for!
It is expensive, but totally worry free cover.
By the way no one was hurt, but the van written off our bits from the van were brought back to UK inside the car that was delivered to our local VW dealer.

It is if you take the annual policy?

They only do Annual Policy which is good considering the Policy covers the UK and certain cover for rest of world and US..

Sorry misunderstood your post. You are saying ADAC covers use at home as well not just the time abroad that RP will. I thought you meant you couldn't have an annual RP policy which you can

Agreed but already have free UK cover so no use to me but fair point. RP and ADAC aren't the same thing although ADAC is a lot cheaper I agree

No problem

We have free AA too but use it if we need it here in the U.K. As we did when puncture on the Caravan on M20 when returning from Tunnel in mid June. AA would not cover our outfit abroad as too big.

I know that RP is expensive, but when the chips are down and you are in major
trouble....I don't mean a nuisance breakdown...but a major multifaceted problem it is so reassuring to only have to deal with one insurer.
But it does mean you are doubling up on insurance - property is covered by your home policy, the van can be covered by your domestic cover etc. But as I say pulling these threads together when you are in shock and your goods are scattered across a remote roadside!

Well this is what I settled for:
I took out a European cover for 1 year with the RAC, someone pointed out I needed their C&C club special offer cover. So I rang them up with some of Vals questions to ask.
I have changed to the RAC active (I think that's the one). I got one year's cover for abroad and for over here, which is what we need. The drivers (me and my travelling love bunny)are covered for any vehicle towing our caravan.
If either breakdown they will repatriate us or get us to the campsite, repairs blah, blah, blah loads of info and get it to a garage or bring it home. I was happy with what I chose and ringing them seemed to get me a cheaper quote than the on line menu of bits to choose from.
I must admit that I have been rescued by them on a holiday before with a caravan so I was slightly biased.
Thank you for all of your help and suggestions, they really have made a difference to the package/cover I have chosen and it made me ask some questions, I wouldn't have asked.
