There was a report from someone from the Royal College of Anaesthetics saying that it was impossible to put gas into a space the size of a camper van or caravan and knock people out without actually killing them.
Brilliant, I also love this forum, and when I first ventured to France was also on here alot asking questions, can't remember if they were daft questions or not, but loads about tags I remember that.
Its quite a big step to take camping overseas especially with dogs etc.
But you all helped me though for which I thank you

Do they have MacDonalds?
Yes, but it is more expensive.
Plan ahead and you can freeze many meals in advance from the UK. If you have a caravan make sure your fridge/freezer works on the cars 12v if you are planning a long journey as some towbar electrics don't provide this.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Alex - Ewan wasn't being serious!

Being new to this site I am not aware of the perennials. What does amuse me though are the requests for recommendations for quiet sites with pools and suitable for teenage kids. Do they exist?
We prefer quiet sites and automatically avoid any with a pool, games rooms and children's playgrounds because we don't associate such amenities with peace and quiet.
Are we missing out?

You are if you holiday in low season. We holiday each year in April, May or June, and then again in late August and early September, and at some of those times we've been one of only ten occupied pitches, on a site with two hundred, an idyllic pool to ourselves overlooked by a Bastide, had a meal in the site restaurant with only one or two others and had a very quiet and peaceful holiday on a well maintained family run campsite.
There is no need to avoid some of the larger sites outside peak season........... but there are some I wouldn't go to even in low season!

I agree with Val. We have been on a site with entertainment stage, waterpark, cafes and discos, yet been only one of the two caravans there.
The all singing dancing bits tend to be closed and the pool not heated, but the wine is €1.48 a litre
I was thinking about school holiday times. The people asking for quiet sites with pools and suitable for teenagers presumably would be visiting in the school holidays. We've been on such sites out of season but I was wondering if there was such a thing as a quiet site with all the amenities in the peak season?

We have to go to France during school hols and tend to go for sites with pools. Don't worry about entertainment etc. Even though theses sites are often larger and busier, we have never encountered any problems with noise or behaviour.
I think our European friends have a very chilled outlook on camping and that's why I love France so much. Everyone is friendly, I always feel safe on site and I never worried about my boys (older now) when going for bread, shower etc. Never had anything taken either!
