One year we had to holiday in June so chose Brittany as it might be cooler than the Med. It was, and it rained part of every day for 2 weeks. We were in a tent then. Sort of clouded our memory of that holiday.

When we arrived in Erquy this year (late June) it was blowing so hard you could barely stand up! We were in a hotel for a couple of nights so not too much of a problem but you definitely have to take the rough with the smooth. The upside is the fabulous scenery with deserted beaches, wonderful food etc....

Over the last 20 years we have built up from 3 weeks away to 12 weeks , we now spend the bulk of the time on one site and enjoy some very lazy days if we want and doing a bit more if we feel inclined.Regarding Grandchildren we made it clear from the first one arriving that OUR 3 months of April/May and June were non negotiable but we were happy to help out the rest of the time, it,s surprising how well they manage when we are NOT there.
GO FOR IT

6 months October to March, normally somewhere in Spain, then a few weekends when back in UK, we spend on average 220 nights a year in the caravan, sometimes wonder why I have a big house 🤔😂😂

We usually do a month in June/July then another mid August/September over on continent using ACSI.
Also breaks at home when we want. We avoid bank holidays and school holidays!
Usually manage a cruise or two if we see some we like.
We have done two longer trips to Australia since retirement, another one possible next year!
No kids or debts and health good so we are doing it while we can.

Vendee ...

The most missed part of the Vendee is the Marais Poitevin ... or Venise Verte (Green Venice) ... right on the south end of the Vendee ...

Extraordinary lattice work of canals and cycle paths ... beautiful villages and tons of 'nature' ...

We have ended pretty well every holiday for the last ten years there (near where we store the caravan) ... it never fails to delight ...
