Yes, a son used to sit for hours in the ablutions charging his phone - using it up as he charged, I reckon!
I did leave my camera battery charger out a night but wouldn't risk it in the loo.
I would say that the answer is not to by a Sony which takes so long to recharge - my bigger Canon battery only used to take two hours. However, that had to be charged in the camera and there's no way i would leave the whole caboodle out ....

It would do no harm to your battery. Polarity won't affect your DC charger. If you want to recharge phones batteries etc from a convenient socket in't campsite sanitary block. just take continental adaptors for your 3pin UK plugs. adaptors are normally dual purpose, they will earth ok whether plugged into French centre pin sockets or German etc. side pin sockets. chargers don't need earthing anyway.
Many campers do this. some are trusting enough to leave their phones, others bring a chair & book & wait while it charges.
