I would like to recommend a lovely site near to Bayeux and "The Landing Beaches"

Its near Port en Bessin, and whilst a fairly large site, it is spacious, and the facilities are excellent.::

Hi all..I am sorry if it would seem that I have bored certain people with my questions. However My wife and I are not as young as I expect you all maybe, but I was looking for the shortest run to France (except Dover/Calais) because this may be the last time we can go.  My wife is not well and to have a 5 hour journey will be too much.

Anyway thank you all for your help in suggesting sites, but I have decided to take just our 4X4 and leave the van behind and go to a site and rent a chalet  just to get a 2+ hour journey.

Thanks again I will from time to time tell you all about some lovely sites we have found here in the Uk.

Speak again later in the meantime have a great Xmas.

Bye.

Your post was not at all boring!

If you are looking for a site with chalets, then do look at the link I posted above for Camping Port'land. They have Chalets, and they are extremely nice.

Port en Bessin is a lovely little fishing village/small town, with great fresh fish to buy from the boats on the quay, some excellent restaurants, a fantastic market on sunday, and maybe 10 minutes from Bayeux which is also lovely. There are wonderful beaches all along the coats, lots to see - the American Cemetery - for those who have seen the film Private Ryan, the first shot was filmed there. There are many museums as well as fantastic beach and seaside to enjoy.

If there is any information on that part of Normandy, or any other advice or help, then please do ask.

Kind Regards

Hi Susa..Thank you for your comments..I am just about to look at your suggested site on the web.

You made me feel great Thanks.

It is my pleasure!

If you do decide on that site or that area, then please do get back to me either by posting here on on a private message, and I will give you lots more info on that area, which is one of our favourites. Its about 20 minutes from Caen if you decide to take that ferry, and also an easy run from le Havre.

We also have dogs, and there are good Vets in the area, we have used one at St Lo, again about 20 minutes away.

If you are interested in WW2 history, then this area is a treasure trove, from the museum at Arromanches - you can still see the remains of the Mulberry harbour they towed across the channel, to the museums in Bayeux. Well worth getting a book on the Normandy offensive to learn a little before you go.

Kind Regards
