We are off to Guernsey august7  on the seacat with Condor Ferries ,2hrs from Weymouth .After reading all this i think i will invest in some travel sickness pills as crossing is at 7.15 in the morning and its a fair drive down from Lancashire through the night.Last time i was on a ferry was as a kid Stranraer to Larne on the big ferry type boats and all was fine .I don`t have the strongest of stomachs at the best of times so i am going to pick out all the best points from peoples views and give them a try and hopefully the holiday can get off to a good start .

Used seacat the last two years Dover to Calia

First time on was first in que and last one off crammed in like sardines so on the way back upgraded to first class, first on first off and loads of room

I also got a lowered car so they altered the height of the seacat to allow my car to get on and off with out scraping the bottom was well impressed

Can't fault them, have used the Dover to Calais many times. Can be a little bouncy when the weather is blowing, but as long as you have sea legs you will be fine.

I have been on the super seacat2 on the liverpool to dublin route. I have a strong stomach and found the journey to be not that bad.
However i would advise to get on the ferry as early as possible to choose the best seats.
I found downstairs too hot and very cramped which made me feel sick and the smell of food from the cafe's made me worse.

On the way back we dashed to the top "quite deck" it was much cooler, less cramped and had good views, if you focus on the horizon it helps with the sea sickness this is because the horizon is not moving, so you have a fixed reference point for your brain to try and make sense of the movement that your body is feeling.
I would use the service again as is very cheap esp for foot passangers but I wouild always reserve myself a seat in the quite deck or first class.

Well - we went and now we're back!  And we survived !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However --- I don't think I will use it again.  The journey back was bumpy and we all felt a bit queasy - my poor little daughter was sick.

Also - our car and caravan was only just inside the required length and Himself was just a tad concerned when he saw the access and turning space. (language unrepeatable in front of small children type concern!)  But, the bonus of being the biggest vehicle was we were put on first so had our pick of the seating upstairs.

Mind - here's a bit of Sod's Law for you - we've never actually made it in time for our ferry at Calais, each time we've missed it for one reason or another and had to be put on a later one.  But, as the Seacats are smaller, and limited in size I made sure that this year we were on time.... And Guess What?  They had had problems that morning and our sailing  - supposed to be at 10.45am France Time, didnt go till after 12.00! Typical!!!!

Anyway - now it's over so I'll just have to get on planning next year's trip - but it won't be on the Seacat!

We had a great crossing to Guernsey on the Seacat ,the Condor staff were brilliant and when we got on it we were directed to do a u turn and ended up being nearly first off ,we are not coming back home until this sunday coming .If the return journey is anything like the outward one then everything will be fine .We all took sickness tablets but i think we will not use them for going home .will definately travel to guernsey this way again as its quick and easy .

The return journey was just as good .no sickness tablet though one of our daughters was feeling a little ill . The only problem was 3 minutes out of St Peters Port one of the engines cut out due to problem so Seacat only had 3 engines which meant that it nearly doubled the length of time for the crossing .Besides that i am looking forward  to next year when we will do it all again as Guernsey is a fabulous place ,friendly people ,better weather and most people leave cars unlocked on car parks with windows down ,homes unlocked such is the low crime rate. You just have to remember when you get back to England to lock up your goods up again as this place is full of thieves , robbers and scumbags .
