just had a look at the BMI flights and the £443 is with hand luggage only. Each 22kg luggage is £32 extra plus £16 to check in at the airport.

Ok so no real difference between the 3 companies, thats good to know.

Can one of you kind people give me some inspiration for a nice site not too far from a ferry port(any) that isn't manic that would suit 2 small very energetic boys (3+5) because i'm getting campsite blindness now..  Pre-erected would suit us best this time around..

TIA

Are you thinking Western Crossing or Dover Calais?

Any, as currently losing the will to live due to campsite blindness!

Ok, i personally would head for the south of Brittany, travelling on brittany ferries to either caen or St malo or even better Roscoff.
I would stay somewhere like Carnac at camping Le Baie or La plage, or Kervillor, or les Menhirs.
All very child friendly, all near beaches, all clean, with pools etc. Or travel via dover calais to somewhere like Le Croix de veux Pont. (not been there but has really good reviews.)
I know what you mean about campsite blindness, i too am a sufferer!

Agree completely with Warbis re the sites around Carnac. Lovely spot and lots to do. We may well be back there next August

Since this thread started ive not been off the Canvas website. Im well chuffed cos all three of our daughters will be joining us on our may/June week away next year, because of the incredible offers....well that and their wonderful dad of course. The first hol with us since they were kids! £50 quid for a week in Dordogne/Loire Jura etc...excellent. So a big thanks to peeps here for the info. Were hoping to book this Wednesday, the girls are coming to our place and we've a short list of three sites - Chateau Des Marais (Loire) La Petite Camargue (Languedoc), and Domain De Chalain (Jura).

To get back to gil16e's question, you might want to look at Chateau Des Marais, im well impressed and will be trying to pursuade the girls on Wednesday! Reckon they'll want sunny Languedoc though.

Thanks again guys.
we're currently looking at domaine Des ormes as a possibility, I have read the reviews on here, tripadvisor and looked at their own website, it does seem very big and brash but the big bonus for me is that is has I golf course onsite(don't tell the wife ha) has anyone stayed here recently? Is the site a bit ott? Would it be good for a couple of wee boys? How much is the golf(can't find a price on met) and how are the canvas tents on site?

Alot of questions, might be easier to start a new thread...ha

our experience_

St Cast Le Chatelet - nice small site near a beach (dont need to go via the clifftop !) - Canvas go there.

La Baie, Trinite Sur Mer - some small plots but ask for a big one and Keycamp are good there

Les Deux Fontaines, Nevez - lovely big site - not much in area but the most fantastic beaches - Pont Aven nice for a visit - Keycamp had slightly better plots than Eurocamp here

Pointe St Gilles, Benodet - Canvas mobile homes too cramped inside and out although the reps were good the year we went. This site had good entertainment and the pool has been redeveloped since we were, good playpark too. So its a good site but has a bit of a "Butlinsy" atmosphere and too large for my liking but has many good points.

La Garangeoire in the Vendee - perfect all round campsite with ponies, canoes, tennis, space, kids clubs, nice staff, lovely restaurant. Well worth a visit with young children and you can visit Puy du Fou theme park from here. Tents on this site were great - nice big plots to take your own or else Keycamp etc had ones. Keycamp had good mobile homes here or you could go with Les Castels but probably by far the best ones on this site were the Thomsons Al Fresco mobile homes ones but if you check they are even dearer than Keycamp/Eurocamp on this site but then you get what you pay for sometimes !

La Cote du Nacre - very near Caen ferry so good for an overnight stop. Do not stay with Canvas here - we were ripped off - tent was next to the canvas/keycamp reps party tents - nightmare - and we were paying for the pleasure ! Not too bad the next year when stayed with Keycamp and asked for a quieter spot but I dont really like this campsite

Domaine des Ormes - have heard its a bit busy - a smaller site may suit younger children. La Baie for example only had one small chute at the swimming pool so it was only younger children in the pool - no leaping teenagers !

If you are going to Italy have a look at Valle Gaia in Tuscany ! It looks nice. Some Italian sites are huge and I got a nasty bit from a mosquito there last time. Have a look at www.bestitaliancampsites.com

Wow Jenny, thanks for the vast amount of information! We have actually booked package holiday for next year as my wife is worried its too long a journey to france with small kids from where we are in scotland. I would be interested to hear how you guys manage/managed when the kids were younger with travelling such long distances? Ours are great travellers, I just suspect my wife wanted to lie on a beach this year and had every excuse under the sun to get this...

we have just returned yesterday from La Croix du vieux Pont, we traveled with a 4 yr old and a dog and went door to door in 13 hrs (with a 1hr stop for lunch.) we live in Glasgow so thats not too far away from u. We also did the trip last yr too when my daughter was 2.5 and it was no bother. She's a great traveller, she loves to watch dvds and she also colours and likes her sticker books in the car so she has enough to entertain her on the journey. Just something to consider for future trips. The site is fantastic and my daughter has said its been her best holiday so far (we also went to Duinrell in Holland) Im sure your kids would enjoy it regardless of the journey.
