We spent last night at Camping Montreal just off the A20 and there were just a few empty pitches! What a difference to the sites we'd been on previously. More than 80% of the other pitches were occupied by British caravans - and the restaurant was very busy (and we had a very nice meal).

A good site, in a very good position, spoiled only by the lack of hot water in the showers. Reviews suggest it 'takes long time to run through' - it doesn't, it never gets hot, lukewarm at best. I spent ten minutes at least, running the shower and waiting for it to 'warm up'. OH complained and then his shower seemed to improve in temperature.

Shame, because with 'proper' hot water it would make an excellent stopover site.

We were there for a couple of nights last week, Val, and it was pretty full both nights split fairly evenly between French, Dutch, and Brits. We thought it was a really nice site, but I do agree with you about the hot water - - it was better in the left-hand building though.

Badger and Val, it's a busy site because it's in the ACSI guide and that's what everyone uses.

But over the other side of the A20 motorway is the municipal site at Vigeois - listed in the Caravan Club guide under the town of Uzerche. It's Camping du Lac de Pontcharral , pretty, picturesque, well maintained, the showers are hot and it's cheaper than the ACSI site. You might have just got there in time but then it closed on 15 September because few people go there as it isn't on the ACSI card list.

We've just got back after 3 weeks, went down to Provence and the Cote d'Azur. Saw very few Brits, mostly Dutch with a few others.

Fri 4/9 Langres was heaving, people were pushing into the tiniest spaces. Sat 5/9, Macon was about half full. Sun 6/9 Tournon was fairly full. Mon 7/9 Crest was pretty quiet. Tues 8/9 St Remy was pretty full. Wed 9/9 Lourmarin was full by the end of the day. Fri 10/9 Apt was heaving, whilst we were out someone put a motorhome on the other half of our pitch! (But they were a very nice French couple). Sun 13/9 Cavaillon was very quiet. The next 3 days were were at Antibes, our site was busy but not full.
Thurs 17/9 back at Tournon, we got one of the last pitches at 4.30 they let a few more on, including some cyclists, then the coplet sign went up. Fri 18/9 Tournus was busy but not full. Mery sur Seine was quiet going down, and very quiet going back. Guines was unusually quiet last night.
