The OP;
'The only gap I currently have between my breakdown cover and my caravan insurance policy is for repatriation of the van in the event of accidental damage to it whilst on site and detached from the car.'
1. In answer to Opensauce wondering about how on site damage cover being the only gap, the damage caused whilst attached is picked up by ADAC policy and repatriated if necessary.
2. Alanguest mentions only 2 companies covering the "gap". If you insure with Saga and choose Europe cover then their policy would appear to cover repatriation up to policy limit of £3,500.
3. The CC policy would appear to allow NO refund upon cancelling their policy. Having not long ago renewed it we will be left with no refund on £300 plus premium plus cost of new policy, £300 with Saga. This condition stinks as the CC will not extend their policy at all and "force" you towards Red Pennant.
4. Contacting ADAC tomorrow for further clarification of terms.

In the OP, and following posts above, it clearly states 'accidental damage' and 'whilst detached from the car' BUT in both cases this is an issue of van insurance.
Point 1 mentions ADAC but this is breakdown insurance?
I said that I had 'found' only 2 companies offering breakdown cover that, as said in point 2, appeared to cover the van when NOT attached to the car.
Point 3 again seems to be mixing van and breakdown insurance and I would like to hear the outcome of point 4!
I was trying to say that, my recent experience, in regard to breakdown cover whilst abroad, was that it seems that I had made assumptions and the cover available was not always what it seemed.
In regard to ADAC the info that I found, Val A helped with an English translation version, was that despite what people were saying, and posting on many occasions, they did not appear to cover the van if it was detached from the car.
Safeguard did but it was a long process to confirm this and the breakdown is only available as an add on to the van insurance at the point that you take it out, so was ideal for me, as I was renewing the van cover, may not suit others.
Comment has been made about not worrying about every little thing that could go wrong but once the thought is in your head it can get to you!
I had one issue that I did not envisage and that was a ruined van tyre that blew on the Autoroute. When I tried to replace it, after arriving on site, this proved impossible as British vans, at least at that time, use tyres with a much higher ply rating and so you could not buy one in France that would be acceptable to the vans insurers other than in the UK. This was resolved by Red Pennant flying one out to the site and I got it fitted at a local tyre fitters.
Its 'just a tyre' but the solution was far from simple and having decent cover was welcome.
