Too late for me, already paid for the Ferry and the deposit on the site, so I am going whatever the exchange rate is, I remember back in the late 60's, when you got over 20Fr to the Pound, happy day's, the reason why we don't have the Euro in Blighty, is to help all the very rich people, most of which do not even live in the UK, get that bit richer, along with a good number of polititians, thing is there case is backed up by all the Sun Readers, not to mention all the BNP wannabe's, so whilst all us normal hardworking folk, who are working our but's of to pay for holidays in France, we are having our trousers pulled down, by the rich list, and a good number of those folk that think being patriotic is by keeping the £, when in reality there is only one currency which of course is the not so mighty $, so in the ideal world it would be best to scrap all currencies, and just have the World $, come the day of the revolution, I don't think so. call me synical, but why has no party ever promised to give us the Euro, afterall it is the next best thing to the $, because we are the 50th state, but no one likes to own up to it.

Hi mr.paul
Firstly I must apolagise for my little rant, but all this one foot in and one foot out of Europe business does bring out the lefty in me, and no I don't read the Guardian, well not much at any rate, but I fill my car up in litres and pay in sterling, I then drive down what is possibly the wrong side of the road compared to most of Europe, I check my speed, and I have a choice of KPH or MPH, the road signs don't tell me which, maybe they should display both, now that would be interesting, now if I lived in France I would not be concerned with any of the points that I have just mentioned, the thing that concerns me is if they put adopting the Euro out to referendum, Bull Dog Jonny, would give it the big no no, and it would be a brave PM that gives it the go-ahead, although it would make for great exit to be remembered by!.

Hi andyains.
You hit the nail on the head, with "mythical economic tests", telling the UK populas that it ain't the right time yet was a good way of keeping all the pro Euro folk at bay, and making the anti Euro bunch feel happy, all in all a win, win for the Government, meantime it is business as usual, untill they change there mind, then whoopy-de, we all of a sudden meet the economic tests, and in we go, I won't be holding my breath on this one though.
