Yes I mean that is where their offices are.

Imagine the next time you go to France you find that your ATMB tag has a flat battery when you come to the tollbooth. You can still use it if you go to a manned booth and get them to scan it but that defeats the object of having a tag in the first place.

The only way you can get it fixed is to visit one of their offices or do it by post which would be difficult unless you will be staying somewhere for a long enough period to have one sent.

With Bip&Go they have offices all over northern France so if I have the same problem no matter where I am going I am likely to be passing an office and all I need to do is pop in and get the tag replaced.

Hope that clarifies what I’m saying

Ken

I use ATMB and when my original tag was 4 years old I sent for an additional tag, in case the first one ran out of battery, and they sent it and just charged me for the postage. I now have a spare in the glove comparment. I realised only today that although there is a 1.90 euro charge for any month you use the tag, that charge is waived if it is used 3 times in the month.

Great that’s another way of making sure you aren’t compromised.

I’ve been with Bip&Go for over 10 years and for me the easiest solution was simply to change my method of payment. As it happened I already had an easy way of doing that.

ATMB was only mentioned because it is the only tag provider that accepts credit card payment.

We can all choose the solution that suits us best. It’s not a competition 😉

But of course it means you are left high and dry on your trip.
Having had to do this once before it isn't really too much of an inconvenience.

Saves on the faff of having to carry two tags but I know some people like to have all their bases covered.
It is what it is.

Perhaps the following might explain the reluctance of EU firms to accept UK credit card payments:

"Credit card giant Mastercard is to raise the fees it charges EU merchants when UK cardholders buy goods and services from them online by fivefold.
It has sparked fears that consumer prices could rise if merchants choose to pass on those costs, especially on items not available from UK retailers.
Transactions with airlines, hotels, car rentals and holiday firms based in the EU could all be affected"

Mastercard attributed the move to the UK's decision to leave the EU."

It seems that MasterCard has seized on the opportunity to raise some extra revenue, which seems crazy as they will not get any revenue from this type of service, the customers will, and have, found alternatives.

If there is a possibilty of Mastercard becoming persona non grata then
it would seem that the Nationwide Flexplus account is the way to go.

They do not levy charges for transactions abroad.

So if you are already using their breakdown and their travel insurance,it may be a simple task of reassigning your credit card and using the debit instruction instead

Well just had an email back from Bip&Go and as expected they have now confirmed that Metro Bank will not accept SEPA Direct Debit Mandate contrary to what I had been told by the Metro Bank staff at the Manchester store.

Plan "B" now, is to shut down my Metro Bank account, and open a Bank account with Starling Bank, what a faff but it is probably for the best.

Courage, mon vieux. It’ll take max 5 minutes to set both up then in the Euro account look for “Account Confirmation Letter” and email that to Bip&Go. You’ll also have to fill in and email the SEPA mandate they sent and that will be it

Ken

Thanks Ken, looks like you can only open a Starling bank account if you have a smartphone, maybe you can do it online without a smartphone will give that a view, if not it looks like I will have to buy a smartphone if I am to use Starling bank, seems a bit crazy to fork out £80 on a phone to open a bank account.

I will see what other options are available, but I am starting to loose the will !.

Don't lose the will, just get another tag. You know you wanna.

And remember, belt and braces and all that.

It is what it is.

Yes it’s a digital bank so you have to use their app to administer it.

Come to think of it you will probably need a smartphone for your vaccine passport when you go abroad too so looks like you’ll have to get one anyway

Ken

Well, i've just come to do a bit of housekeeping for our first trip to France in a couple of years and found this thread.

We've had a APRR tag for about 10 years and the thought of travelling without it seems like a real faff.

I've tried to log into the 'client espace' and despite resetting passwords its not entertaining any of it, I expect because the payment details are long out of date. Merde!

Can I just confirm that there has been no movement with Metro / Nationwide on their SEPA direct debit?

Even if I contact APRR they are likely to request a DD mandate which I cannot fulfil.

have people managed to set one up with a starling euro account?

Thanks in advance
Andy

Yes I’ve got several d/d’s set up with my starling Euro account including our Bip&Go subscription.

They are no more difficult to set up than a UK direct debit mandate
