It's absolutely tranquil here in the Ardèche, the weather is glorious, river fantastic, food amazing. Social distancing on site is no problem at all and everyone is wearing masks in supermarkets.

It really does make the necessary hoops to get here (and back again) seem minimal.

Where are you Lidds0? We're going up to the Ardeche tomorrow to 'winterise' our caravan which is stored there, and to repair a Heki rooflight, replacing the gas struts. We shall be near Ruoms? Are you anywhere nearby?

For any wine lovers coming out in September and near a Lidl supermarket, their wine fair starts on 8th Sept. Since we moved here 3 years ago I'd say it's the best value supermarket wine fair going.

Catalogue here.

Well after our 2020 trip being cancelled, we booked Aug 2021, then Boris put France as Amber + and the Mrs had trouble getting annual leave (new job that didn’t honour the agreement on her interview regarding holiday days), so we cancelled this years trip.

We decided a couple of weeks ago that we will now go in September, original camp site would be closed half way through our stay so we booked somewhere else (Plage de Riez in Vendee), although we didn’t take out a cancellation policy, the original campsite (Camping Les Amiaux) kindly refunded the majority of our deposit, this refund of £113 paid the majority of our 10 days in Plage de Riez, ferry was very expensive and would not accept my 25% ATOC discount for some reason.

It will be very different due to being mid/end September, so very quiet but at least the weather should still be a few degrees warmer than the U.K.

We’re now in the Dordogne having a great time. Masks are routinely worn in city centres and people are still keeping their distance - we’ve been to markets in Bergerac and Orleans and felt very safe and most restaurants and coffee bars asking for the ‘passe sanitaire’ which has scanned fine in every place except one. Sometimes just seeing the QR code is enough. It’s apparently quieter than usual but you wouldn’t have thought so in Domme! Weather perfect and we’re so glad we came. Would recommend it over a fortnight in crowded Cornwall to anyone !

Sorry Val, only just seen this. And yes, we are near Ruoms (and still having a lovely, relaxing time).

Shame we missed you, but you can't have been on our site, because we were the first people from the UK to have stayed there all year. Sadly, time pressure meant we had only a few days there, and are now at the end of our ninety days in France, and heading for Eurotunnel tomorrow. Fortunately that means we will see our two grandchildren who both started school this week, and catch up with our friends and families before we head back to France in December to finish the work on our house.

There's only one other British family on the site where we are right now.

5 days of rain is forecast all over France from Monday so it sounds like you're leaving at the most appropriate moment, Val. Mind you, storms were forecast last week too and we only had a smattering of rain one evening and overnight, so it might amount to nothing (fingers crossed!).

Wishing you a safe journey home tomorrow.

We've had 2 weeks of lovely weather, on the Channel coast, only as far south as the Baie de Somme. Hot back here in the UK though, even in Lancs.

Apparently Belgium look to be putting the U.K. on their red list, lets hope France dont follow suit, at least until sometime after 0400hrs on Sunday 20th Sept when we arrive - EDITED false alarm - didn’t realise we were already on Belgium’s red list, the latter part of my post still stands though 😂😂😂

Most of Belgium appeared to be in France when we were there.

We just drove from France through Belgium & into Holland last Wed no probs. Campsite in Holland did not even ask for vac proof & nobody was wearing masks in the nearby Lidl so ok by us. Nobody was even wearing masks in the Covid test place either. Free tests in Holland.

Back on Saturday day crossing Hook to Harwich. Test results & locator forms checked before sailing & only a passport check & away on arrival in Harwich. Just really glad we still got away this year.

Having just returned from France it was very obvious that the only people not wearing masks were the Dutch.
