We have pets and although we've toyed with living abroad, it's somehow too difficult to juggle a house in the UK (as we wouldn't want to sell up here) and one in France, and not have to put the pets in quarantine at some point. So we don't do it
We have a cat and have brought her with us! With pet passports these days it's so easy, and no quarantine required. She's settled in extremely well, made herself at home, and loves 'her place in the sun'. She goes out via the roof terrace, and down the adjacent houses, jumps on to a high wall, then a low wall, and comes back and sits on the kitchen window sill. The other cats in the village seem very friendly (perhaps because they can't understand a word she's saying!).
Life here is lovely - just as we imagined, with everyone being very friendly. Just ten minutes ago we were invited to join the local hunters for an 'aperitif' as they sat on the church wall opposite the house! There's a bread delivery each morning, a cheese and wine van once a week, butcher twice a week, and travelling supermarket twice a week.
We have cleared our cellar, and found several bundles of old twigs, and some metal grids. These went in the car to the local skip, and were pounced on, on our arrival, by the workers there, who informed us they were 'escargot traps' and very desirable, so they went home in a car boot! Later during the clearance a scorpion scuttled out from under a tarpaulin, and was rehomed well away from the house.
We've managed to insure the house with a French insurer, and opened a bank account. That was an interesting experience, though easier than we thought. The bank manager was just like someone from a French Farce who chatted away to himself under his breath as he took details, and filled in forms. Someone got locked in the strong room with the key on the inside, whilst we were talking to the manager, and he was called away urgently to let her out with his pass key!
We're just off to see a Festival of Extreme Sports at Peyrepertuse! Bon Voyage

Val - congratulations. Lovely view from the terrace. We still haven't found what we're looking for, but we have a share of my former family home and 100% of Roberts family home. We both love Savigny-Les-Beaun, and it feel slike coming home when we stop there, it's only 2.5 hours from the Alps, so that wouild be ideal. Then again we love Aquitiane but its quite a distance from the mountains. We also loved the area of Provence around Bonnieux but the prices are way up the scale...perhaps if we won the lottery!. We are going to keep are eyes open this summer, but we do not want a project , unless its just the interior design or garden design that needs doing, then I am in my element. Have a wonderful time in your new second home.
