Just do it. At first stick to the french coast Brittany etc. And then venture forth  There are many guide books with continental site listed and a lot of websites dedicated to motorhomes will give you information. Maybe joining the club for your vehicle who also organise European rallies would help to give you the confidence to continue. If I were to give only one piece of advice it would be get travel insurance both for you and for vehicle breakdown.

I dont own a Motorhome but I do know that France is made for motorhoming. Many small towns and villages have stations where a MH can park overnight and for a couple of euros you have access to a post for water, waste and EHU. I think there is a guide to the locations of the stations. Many tourist sites and villages also have dedicated MH parking as well and many with the same stations so you have access to water etc. Most of the regular campsites also have pitches for MH's only with facilities for their particular needs like toilet evacuation. A seasoned MH'er will probably be along soon to expand on this.

I had a great two years motorhoming around preatty well most of europe, didn,t own a computer or guide book back then (1999-2001) but generally motorhoming in europe is easier, cheaper and less hassle than in the u.k.

Id still be travelling but alas little ninjas kept poping out!

Hi, we have been motorhoming around France for 5 years now and use "France Passion" www.france-passion.com and have had many wonderful nights on various French farms, vinyards, dairy farms, herb farms honey farms ostrich farms etc etc the people are so friendly and passionate about meeting us (complete with our dog) and always make us very welcome, occaionally we turn up and it looks more like a factory or layby on road, we just drive on to find another one, a few nights on an ordinary campsite with decent showers and swimming pools then we do one or two nights of "Passion" it is the best way to meet and enjoy the French

France is great for motorhome holidays, you will really enjoy it. The campsites are in many cases cheaper than here. We don't normally go in July/August, but I have read many times that it may be advisable to book sites ahead for those months, as the more popular ones get booked up during the school holidays.

If this is your first time then I would seriously reconsider going as far as Spain if you are only going for 2 weeks. I don't know where you will be crossing from/to, but from the north of France to the south, depending on exactly where, is in the region of between 600-700 miles. Yes, you could do it all on motorways (which would cost a fair bit in tolls), and do it in 2 or 3 days. That also means 2 or 3 days back, which means nearly half of your 2 weeks is spent just travelling! So you have just over a week left.

Of course this is only a personal opinion, but that wouldn't be my idea of a holiday, after all, they are meant to be relaxing. In August you don't need to travel far to get good weather and in the northern/middle part of France there are so many beautiful areas, it would be such a shame to go hurtling past at all that just to get to Spain. Also, the great thing about motorhomes is that you can just meander, and when you get somewhere you like the look of, stay for 1 or 2 nights and then carry on. Similarly, if you have decided to go somewhere and then decide you don't like it when you get there, you just carry on. We never book sites ahead though, so whether this would be more difficult in August, I don't know.

Be sure to get travel insurance and breakdown cover for the motorhome and ensure your motorhome insurance covers you for abroad, not all policies automatically do.

Do you have bikes? There are lots of cycle paths in many parts of France and a great way of seeing more of the surrounding area.

Have a good time.

Ina.
