France is great for motorhome holidays, you will really enjoy it. The campsites are in many cases cheaper than here. We don't normally go in July/August, but I have read many times that it may be advisable to book sites ahead for those months, as the more popular ones get booked up during the school holidays.
If this is your first time then I would seriously reconsider going as far as Spain if you are only going for 2 weeks. I don't know where you will be crossing from/to, but from the north of France to the south, depending on exactly where, is in the region of between 600-700 miles. Yes, you could do it all on motorways (which would cost a fair bit in tolls), and do it in 2 or 3 days. That also means 2 or 3 days back, which means nearly half of your 2 weeks is spent just travelling! So you have just over a week left.
Of course this is only a personal opinion, but that wouldn't be my idea of a holiday, after all, they are meant to be relaxing. In August you don't need to travel far to get good weather and in the northern/middle part of France there are so many beautiful areas, it would be such a shame to go hurtling past at all that just to get to Spain. Also, the great thing about motorhomes is that you can just meander, and when you get somewhere you like the look of, stay for 1 or 2 nights and then carry on. Similarly, if you have decided to go somewhere and then decide you don't like it when you get there, you just carry on. We never book sites ahead though, so whether this would be more difficult in August, I don't know.
Be sure to get travel insurance and breakdown cover for the motorhome and ensure your motorhome insurance covers you for abroad, not all policies automatically do.
Do you have bikes? There are lots of cycle paths in many parts of France and a great way of seeing more of the surrounding area.
Have a good time.
Ina.
