Phil,

We are going 20th July - 03rd August - No one seems to have stayed at Les Sables do they? Spooky. I am sure it will be ok. I have had confirmation of our stay with a very polite reservation letter. [in French]

Bill

See you there Bill. We are now going to this site from 23rd July to 4th Aug, with a B&B either side. Preparez vous le vin blanc et le vin rouge!!

Phil

Last year we stayed just outside Royan at a site called Le Clos Fleuri in the village of Medis.

This was quite a quiet site with a modest pool but suited us fine.

You should be aware that in August this part of France is hideously busy. We've never experienced traffic in France like it, parking in town was a real challenge and sitting in queues to go anywhere took the gloss off what was otherwise a really great holiday.

The beaches on the Atlantic coast were quite wild with large waves, which may not be a problem with older children, and the beaches on the river estuary were inundated with jellyfish.

On the plus side Royan and the towns along the estuary were quite pleasant at night with great seafood restraunts and the zoo at La Palmyre is well worth a visit, just go early to avoid the traffic.

I can remember when this was all fields.

Thanks Stackman for the info.

The traffic issue worries me a bit.

I suppose we'll just have to set out early and return late, when we go out.

Can you get a train to La Rochelle or Royan from here?

Phil

Hello, We have just booked at Port Punay, we also have teenagers and it has a pool and is only 150m from the beach and has all the faclities that you would need and above all it is very reasonable.

It was reccomended to us from someone on this website so this certainly has its advantages. We are going end of July for 12 nights sailing to Dunkerque and we have also booked a municipal site half way for a night on the way and on the way back. The whole 12 nights was about 450 euros!

Thanks sueandadie,

Looks very nice, but no slides in the pool for the kids - or for me!!!!!

Besides, we've already booked for Les Sables.

No probs, we all prefer the beach so we wanted a site within walking distance to a beach where we can go body boarding! Will probably only use the pool for a dip before dinner! Or my 13 year old daughter will probably use the pool while we are getting ready to go to the beach as she doesn't like helping much!

Bill, Not long to go now. 3 weeks from this moment we will be somewhere between England and France. I will be asleep in the cabin!!

Kids can't wait. Look forward to meeting you there. We'll be in a blue Vango tent and silver Vauxhall Zafira.

Phil

Magicaly we have booked there also in August and are using camping cheques.  When are you going?

Hi DizzyDi

Sorry I missed your post when this thread ran earlier. We arrive on the 20th August and leave on the 2nd September. Come and say hello and have a glass of wine if you are there at the same time. Two women in a navy blue lichfield frame tent with a green gazebo in front of it. We drive a pale blue Picasso and we will be on the pitches with bathrooms.

Carol
