Paul,
from here to Pornic on the Loire Atlantique coast is around two hours, as is Les Sables d'Olonne on the Vendee coast. We've been to both from here for days out and the roads are good. Pornic is very quaint, with a great beach and really picturesque harbour. It's very like Cornwall in lots of ways. Les Sables is a great favorite with the teens as there's a hint of the surf scene there.
