Hi we are looking for a site in the vendee for us and 2 children 12 and 16 - one likes the beach - surfing etc the other likes a good pool complex.

I was wondering whether anybody has been to this one.  Its a bit confusing because there seem to be quite a few sites with les dunes in their name.  This one is at La Chaume near les sables D'olonne.

Is the beach near this site lifeguarded.  My son is keen to surf but I know this coast can be quite dangerous and he's not that experienced yet.

Thanks for your help.

Sue

Hi Sue. Unfortunately I am not at all yet familiar with this region, but after checking out the location on the web I can see why you are going there.

I wish you luck in your quest for more info.

Hi Sue

Went there last year...the beach is lovely but the beach directly outside the gates to the beach is not lifeguarded and yes it does get very rough...(suppose it is the Atlantic though)...the tide can be very strong also. There is a lifeguarded beach about a mile South which is lovely. The swimming pool complex at Les Dunes is very good...always seemed to be beds to use. My only disappointment with this site was the lack of evening entertainment for adults and children. They put bands and different acts on but in a smoke filled small bar. they have an outside terrace but never appeared to use it. Previous years we have been to the Langudoc region and find the temperature in the evening more to our liking....once the sun goes down it can become really chilly with the wind whipping off the sea..! Les Sables D'Olone is some 1 and half miles away, you can catch the small marina ferry which takes about half a mile off of the walk. In the evening Les Sables promenade is closed for vehicles and cafe/bars with entertainers move out onto the road...it really is nice. Hope you enjoy....don't forget Puy de Foy is only an hour away...definately worth a trip.
