Hello everybody!

I'm 21 and me and my friends (ages 21,22,23,23 and 23) are looking to hire a motorhome to travel from calais to either south france or north italy stopping at beaches (france trip) or different countries/sights (italy trip).
I wonder if anybody can help me. I just wanted to know the following which seems to be quite hard to find out looking through the motorhome hire websites as they're all totally different:

1. whats the youngest age you have to be to rent to go to europe (we all have clean driving liscences since we were 17)?

2. do you know any good sites to search for a suitable motorhome?

3. how much i should be looking to spend (if you havent recommded a good site)?

4. wether we should all get insured to drive or is that too expensive?

thanks in advance

sam

I'd check around before you plan any further as all of the motorhome places I am aware of will not hire to anyone under 25. At all. It is just not worth them doing it as the insurance would be astronomical. I've just had a quick google and all the places I've found limit drivers to between 25 and 70 years of age, with full clean licences. You may find someone prepared to take on a younger driver, but you would certainly pay a hefty extra charge.

Sorry!

Amanda

The age will be a problem.

My advice is get all your mates together and buy a cheap camper, but have it thoroughly tested before taking on France and Italy first.

Some of my friends from a few years ago did this and everything went the finest. They bought an old VW and drove around Europe for about two months and had some incredible experiences. They even managed to find work, and one in particular even met his future wife out there - a lovely French girl called Chloe.

I wish you all a great trip.

How about you take a couple of cars, buy a couple of cheap tents and go for it. As the others have said, your age will a problem re hiring a camper.

This is a great idea but I imagine they want to travel in the same vehicle and this is why they want a camper.

Buy a seven-seater car and a trailer for the luggage? Or an old mini-bus or something.

Can motorhomes carry six people anyway?

My motor home has seven seat belts and can seat seven adults easily, although it's only a 6 berth!!!
