Thinking of using the Norfolk Line Dunkerque crossing instead of Sea France Dover Calais this summer. How good are they?

used 'em this week--£67 return for a car--booked 2 days before travel & daytime crossings--they were cheaper than the others-they always are--& also more convinient for Holland-which was where we was going--the boats are ok--not as good as Dov/Cal----the Dunkerque terminal is pretty grotty-imho---ok if you like trucks & wharehouses--but its only to get you across & back so if they are the cheapest--use 'em--crossing time 2 hrs--bit longer than Dov/Cal--

Used them several times and they are excellent. They also have a new fleet of ships now. They are no frills so food is cheap and cheerful, but they dont have the big shops that the other routes have, plenty of seating and never crowded as they dont take coaches. We have never had a delay with them and they have never charged for going on an earlier boat if you get to the port early. I can recommend them.

We have used them two or three timed and have booked again for August this year.

They offer great value, we are paying only £72 for a crossing in the middle of August.

The boats are new and mostly uncrowded.

The food is good quality and reasonably priced.

The crossing may take a little longer than the Calais route and the Dunkirk terminal isn't anything to get excited about but that's never a problem. ( Although I had the worst coffee in France at their cafe.)

Just past the ferryport junction, towards Belgium, there is an enormous Auchan hypermarket which has  much more choice and offers better value than any of the overblown HYPErmarkets around Calais and in particular Citie Europe.

On other slight downside is that their sailings are more widely spaced than some of the Calais carriers, presumably because the trip is longer, so if you miss your boat you'll have to wait longer. However we have twice changed our return dates whilst in France and have not been charged or had any other difficulties, their staff being very helpful and courteous, ringing me back on my mobile in France to let me know the alternative sailings I could use.

I can remember when this was all fields.

Hi Sportster

I echo all the above posts - The new boats are superb and the Norfolk Line staff excellent. This year will be our third year with them. £118 return for our large outfit - great value. Try them you won't be disappointed.

Has anyone used them to cross from Birkehead to Ireland?

They're more expensive for the Liverpool - Belfast crossing than the bigger compaines are for Dublin - Holyhead or Stranraer - Belfast crossings.
