Hello,

I am about to reserve a pitch at La Piscine near Beg Meil in Brittany and although there is a favourable review in Alan Rogers I would really appreciate another opinion. We are looking for a fairly quiet site, but also want swimming pools and slides for our 2 children of 7& 9.  We have also recently bought a pretty large tent - Vango Vista 800 ! and therefore have to consider pitch size I think.

Any views please for a new member....

Harri, Welcome to UKCS - many happy postings!!!

Didn't want you to think that you were being ignored - we've never stayed, there, but someone must have stayed at La Piscine, and be helpful enough to reply to a brand new member with only one posting.

The Caravan Club Europe Guide comment is:  ' Highly recommended family run site, good walking and cycling' and they make a comment about the large pitches - so wouldn't have though you'd have a problem.

Hope someone else can let you have the benefit of their personal experience - and have a great holiday.

We should all do that more - in that way those asking questions about sites would have more to base their decisions on.  I'm as guilty as the next - recommending sites, but failing to write a review.  I'll make a promise to myself to do it the next time I recommend a site!!!  However, don't always let a bad review put you off a site - some people have a bad time for various reasons, and don't really write an objective review.

I've just posted a review of this site. It was brilliant for us and the children (two boys aged 8 and 9). Not too big so everything to hand, great pool and other sports amenities, clean facilities, large, private pitches and a good mix of French and English families.

Hello Quinn,

We must have been at La Piscine at the same time!  Thanks for posting a response. I was just about to submit a review when I discovered your one which says pretty much what I intended to. We had a lovely time and the children (7 & 9) especially enjoyed the freedom the site allowed along with the pool and water slides. Our one regret was that we only took the childrens bikes with us.

Harri.

can anyone who has been to La Piscine tell me if the ehu were compatible for UK stuff, do we need adaptors. Hoping to go Aug 2009. Any tips on booking would be appreciated. We live near Leeds, would it be best to drive to South coast then hop across from Southampton or any other port, or do Calais. Need to consider cost of fuel. Dont mind driving more thru France as fuel is cheaper, but is it dearer going from Calais via ferry or tunnel. Then there's the time lost or gained going from which ever port.

Fuel in France is now creeping up to a similar price level as Britain (sadly) - see Fuel for prices in every fuel station in France. . Fuel prices have risen, and the euro exchange rate has risen against the pound, so double whammy.

We live near Leeds, and almost always use the shorter crossings, but we have a caravan which whacks up the price and on the longer crossings, which are more expensive anyway, that can make a huge difference to costs0.  Without a caravan you may be better booking the longer crossing.  If you start looking early (say late September/October) you may get a 'special offer' bargain crossing (or if you're a member of the Caravan Club or Camping and Caravanning Club both often offer cheaper deals).  Speedferries and Norfolk Line usually offer the cheapest (short) crossings, with P and O and Seafrance next, and usually Eurotunnel is the most expensive, but lots of people on here, who shop at Tesco, use their Tesco vouchers to exchange for 'deals' which are then worth up to four times as much against the Eurotunnel price (so £25 in vouchers equals £100 off your Eurotunnel crossing).
