Hi, Billy. I'd forgotten what a good site this is. You're right though, there's nothing of the hippy about this van, no character at all really, other than an ability to laugh at every task I set for it.

Are you still a T3 owner?

Damn, it makes so much (too much?), sense, mate, doesn't it, but I like those particular caravans, they make sense. Do you attach a (massive) awning to it?

If you can't find a cheaper crossing, I doubt anyone else will.

What an absolutely fantastic journey, the scenery is breathtaking I just wish I had the time to go on such a long journey in such a short space of time, I bet it's something you will never forget - brilliant !!!

Oh wow!  That is a terrific write up thanks for sharing it with us all.

We went to L'escale, Grand Bornand last summer with our tent, looked a bit different in 30 degrees sun though!  Glad we weren't the only ones to think it expensive and the pitch sizes laughable.

We went last year on a similar spur of the moment I will use my motorhome to tour in,

Cheshire-France-belgium-Eindhoven(sleep)-germany rhine valley(sleep 2 nights)- black forest -Switzerland-France (sleep 2 nights)- Luxembourg sleep 2 nights- eindhoven -sleep 1 night- Belgium-sleep 1 night- France1 night and then back to Blighty, and home.

Why? Because its there.

This year we are going down to hungary, taking in Swiss- austria- france-belgium-luxenbourg-prague-croatia-italy-slovenia.

Not in that order of course!!!

And to understand that last reply............. We'd all like more time and don't we all have more (money) than we need? Otherwise it's highly unlikely that we'd own, or even have access to, computers.

Anyway, thanx for the kind comments. I've never found anyone with an effective argument against "Because its there".

I assumed the pitch sizes at Le Grand Bornand had been reduced so as to cater for a glut of snow-tourists. That they're like that in summer time too is close to disgraceful!

Our pitch had been "moved along" it seemed because the taps for the serviced pitches no longer bordered each pitch, ie next door's tap was about a third of the way into our pitch instead of being at the border of the two pitches.  Their prices are a rip off too, £17 a night in June and we were charged 6 amp electrics for a tent running a poxy coolbox!!  I am in no hurry to return.

We were asked if we had a long lead for our hook-up. I said we had (it's about five miles long), but the man said it wasn't long enough.

We will be hurrying back to "wild" camp for a coupla nights in the area when this year's Tour de France goes through though..............

Good grief!  It certainly is a great area but there doesn't seem to be an abundance of camp sites up in the mountains which is a shame.  Wouldn't really want to stay in Annecy itself but somebody has given us details of a small farm site that we might use.

The only good thing was the pool and sun loungers at Le Grand Bornand.  It was nice of an afternoon after having been out in the morning to sit and read, sun bathe and paddle (it isn't very deep!).
