Millau Bridge. We have been to this site too Claire. Whole area is lovely but takes quite a while to get anywhere. I would enjoy a couple of days at the site, the view from the pitches kept me busy for hours. You have picked some great sites

Vultures will soar over the site but go up the Jonte to the 'visitor centre' DO NOT FORGET BINOCULARS

Go see the beaver - just up the road towards Cantobre village.[walk]

If the weather is clear the Mt Agoul [sp?] boasts a 360 mile view from Mt Blanc in the alps to Pic d'europa in the Pyrannees.
A canoe on the tarn is pretty cool too - through a 1000ft deep gorge on a crystal clear river.

The thought of Cheddar gorge will make you LOL after seeing this area.

Like pager says - it takes a long time to get anywhere - even if you can resist the temptation to stop and go WOW!!

Thanks- it sounds wonderful. Will borrow my Dads binocular if I can. Looking forward to the Millau viaduct. we've never stayed in this area before so I'm really excited about this trip. The site we're at for the main part of the holiday is by the beach and more geared up for the children (water slides etc) , val de Cantobre and domaine des Plantas are for me (selfish) but I'm sure will be enjoyed by all, claire

watch out for the big bright green lizards too.

Sundews grow in the area too - but we didn't see them.

Someone on here posted they saw a boar

claire, how old are the kids, mine loved both sites. One of my favourite photos if of my two at Cantobre. They used to collect sticks of all things and pretend they were cavemen on an adventure!!. They loved the river beach and the playground overlooking it at Plantas. Both sites have plenty to keep the kids amused.

The river beach was smelly when we were there - and very disappointing compared to Dordogne - but the 'whole experience' was very positive indeed.

Looks like it will just be the 5 year old coming this year as the teens (18 + 16) have decided to stay with their granparents! Claire

Check out the farmers market - ask in reception for details when you get there.

Have a coffee in Cantobre itself - see photo

They also make a mean pizza on the site

We have been to this campsite 8 or 9 times for two or three weeks at a time and still love it just as much and have still not been everywhere in the area. If you are only staying for a couple of days I recommend taking a trip to the radio mast you can see it from the campsite. Take the road towards Nant then the winding road towards la Cavalerie at the top of the hill there is a rough road  directly on the right you can drive along this or drive so far then walk. The view from the mast is breathtaking you can see the whole of the area but dont forget to take your binoculars

If they still have wild life courier for Eurocamp/Canvas Holidays see if they'll let you join in some of the trips. we went to dawn trip..worth getting up for and with them to see vultures.Walk along the river to Nant and back, not too far.

You used to be able to order bread night before and they deliver it to tent the next morning! Longish walk to loos etc and need torch! Cantobre village wonderful, saw wild dormice like animals but with long tails(have special name) hiding in crannies of old buildings.

You'll love it!

The patisserie in the village in Nant (walk up past the 'cloisters' where the cafe/bars are, and it's around the corner on the left) is worth a visit in the morning for the delicious quiches and tarts.

If you're there when there's a night market on in Millau do make an effort to attend - lots of regional foods, samples, and you can buy a plate of what you like and sit at a communal table with a plastic glass of wine, and enjoy the atmosphere.  Drive back through La Cavalerie at dusk and you might (as we did - yes it was my posting previously) see a wild boar on the way home (first time in 26 years of french travel - previously only see dead ones after a hunt).

Just a message to your cool-dude teens - there's lots of 'teen' activities arranged from the site - white water rafting, canyoning, climbing, caving, bungee jumping, abseiling, and paragliding - and whenever we've been there are always lots of other teenagers.  It's one of the few sites that our teenage boys didn't mind going back to.

Our early teens loved it -Most nights there was a 15 a side, 6 language footie match on the multisports area from 6pm untill dark - and then they hit the bar [soft drinks].
