Hi

We are booked to go to Duinrell at the end of July and was wondering if anyone had camped in the Dennenveld area of the campsite.  These are XL comfort pitches, just wondering how close they are to toilets etc.

thanks

Hi Dionne

We have just spent 4 days camping at Duinrell. Didnt know where your site was but have looked on the map http://www.duinrell.nl/vakantiepark/camping/plattegronden/?lng=en . You are slightly out of the way of the toilet block but that is not a bad thing. We were on Eiland and although the pitch was okay the toilet block for some reason seemed to attract people who wanted to sit and chat at half past midnight!!! Two nights on the run. If you want to know anything please feel free to ask

Hi Graeme

Did you have a good time?  We are booked for 2 weeks at the end of July and we are all really excited.  Did you get a chance to go into wassenaar? I know there is plenty to do for the kids on the park but I like to get out and about and explore the area.

What were the toilet blocks like?  I know I'll have loads more questions for you but just cant think at the moment.

Dionne

Hi Dionne

We had a very good time. The weather was not brilliant but at the end of the day it was May. The toilet blocks are very clean and the showers really hot. Wassenaar was a nice little town and we were quite impressed by nearby Leiden which had plenty of restaurants. We also went into Amsterdam using local buses and trains which my youngest loved, especially the double decker trains. I'm not a big lover of Amsterdam but its worth a day out , especially the Anne Frank house.

We also drove out to Arnhem to see "the Bridge too Far". I would recommend giving a whole day to this as the museum is on the outskirts of Arnhem and takes about half an hour to get to. Arnhem itself is about a 1 hour and a quarter away but it is worth it.

There is plenty on site to do but I'm sure the time that you are going it will be very busy. Best times for the waterpark are first thing ie 10am or last thing ie from 8pm to 10pm. The amusement park is good and much more widespread than you originally think. I only found one part of it the day before we went home which disappointed the kids.

Fire away with any more questions.

Wife and myself spent an enjoyable few days there in a mobile a couple of years ago late September. As we arrived on the Monday afternoon the entrance was in a somewhat chaotic state as over 300 cars with caravans all tried to leave together after a rally!  After that as might be expected things were very quiet.

Might not sound too exciting on paper but spent a rather interesting afternoon at Kinderdijk, the other side of Rotterdam, where there are 19 restored windmills pumping water out of the fields.  See: http://www.kinderdijk.nl/  Entirely free.  Although their publicity says the mills are only run at weekends during our midweek visit some were working - the weather was a bit blowy and it was a sobering experience to be in the upper storeys of the building feeling the entire structure shaking as the sails were going full tilt!

If you have a day out in the car to the north, on your way back home make sure you get in the correct lanes on the motorway where it divides just south of Schipol.  Most of the Dutch drivers in their BMW X5's show little mercy!

We've just got back from Koningshof at Rijnsburg, which isn't far from Wassennar. Best beach in the area has to be Katwijk, it is gorgeous, lovely fine sand, wide beaches, shallow sloping sea, lovely and clean, really nice cafes on the beach and so on. No chavs/amusements/arcades/anything like that. We spent most of half term baking on there in the sun......bliss!!

I can also recommend Archeon www.archeon.nl for a great day out. And Bubbel Jungle, just on the outskirts of Leiden, a soft play centre for kids in case of a wet day.
