Is it necessary to book in august in France? I'm not too fussy about sites, so long as there is a toilet and a shower, quite fancy some of the municipal sites. We will be in a tent (no ehu) and just like the idea of a bit of freedom. Did it many years ago, no problem, have things changed?

i think if your going after the 2nd week in august it should be ok, the main break is july and first 2 weeks in august in europe.
we are the last 2 weeks of july and all of august. hope that helps.

 Depends where you are going. Anywhere near the beach sites are all usually very crowded and noisy. I would suggest going inland a bit, and driving to the beach.

We have been going to France for the last thrirty years, and find it best to look for sites with a separate touring area, separate from the statics.
