We're going there in August with our 9 and 12 year old for a second visit. Last was 2 years ago. It is pretty dense, but we found people kept to the "Ruhepause" in the afternoon and at night very well. I think we were the only English there at the time, it was very Dutch. I was fine with that, but I think my boys (who have no German... yet) were a bit fazed. They still wanted to go back though.
Having free use of the pool is great, our kids were in there a couple of times a day, usually morning and evening before or after trips out. We haven't bothered with a family bathroom, but I did feel a twinge of envy for those who did because of course there are some queues at the usual times. But all clean, well ordered, and no complaints here. The site playground was a little "young". I think older kids just head over to the diving boards at the pool the whole time!
I'd recommend a Schwarzwaldkarte avalable from the main campsite office, a summer one includes a trip to EuropaPark and for one up-front price you get entry to as many things as you can cram into three days, plus free coffees and cake in various places, and a brochure of all the sites participating in the scheme. Do it right and you can get very good value. And do visit the Medieval Torture Museum (Mittelalterliches Foltermuseum) in Freiburg, aptly placed just across from the Munster. Never seen anything quite like it.
We've provisionally got pitch 223, so if you're there 5–17 August drop by if you find yourself missing English and don't mind consorting with minimalist tenters!

Well, a happy camping trip that was. We thoroughly enjoyed this campsite and the area was superb. The pool complex next door was great, although I'm not sure I believed the water temperature they displayed - it was freezing! The kids didn't seem to mind though. We visited Freiburg, which was great, with some wonderful places to eat too, we also visited Titisee where you could take a boat or pedalo out on the lake, great for a quick dip and the scenery was fabulous. We spent a day at Eurpoa park and my kids enjoyed it better than Disneyland Paris. Well worth the money. The waterfalls at Triberg were amazing and possibly my favourite day out. You could buy monkey nuts to feed the native 'nutcracker' birds, which were beautiful! We also saw many red squirrels which was something we hadn't seen in the flesh before. Kirchzarten is great and only a few minutes walking gets you into the main area where you would find many supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants - all very reasonably priced. The free travel card to use on buses and trains was invaluable - they're very eco friendly and don't really want you driving to your days out, but that made our holiday even better as we could have meals out with a few drinks and get the train back home! Thanks Candida and Richard (and the boys of course) for your company over part of the holiday, it was lovely to meet you all and the kids enjoyed your company much more than ours!
Sorry to go on and on but this campsite, although a bit crowded when we arrived, was great and certainly one to which we plan to return. A word of warning, if you tow a caravan, some of the narrow roadways and right-angle corners on site were challenging! And the 3 days of rain we encountered made the ground very boggy, hence we had to be 'helped' off our pitch by Candida and a family on a pitch close by!

Actually, I've been meaning to get round to a review, good spur on to do it, Jo, I will get ot it this weekend! Hope your journey home went smoothly and wasn't too arduous. It was great to meet you, and your kids were I have to say exactly the kind you always HOPE your own will meet on a campsite. It's nice to know other people have enjoyed what has become a favourite of ours – despite the high densities in the peak of the season. And the tip on the pedalos with the slides on them at Titisee made a whole afternoon of the holiday for us, excellent.
I'd be inclined to disbelieve the pool temperatures as well, only the ones at our nearest indoor pool always look higher than they feel too, so maybe water temperature is just like that.
On our last day we went and did the "Abenteur im Wald" climbing and ropewalking stuff near Kenzingen, which was...well, for me it was like bashing your head against a wall, nice when I could stop. I got bruises all over my arms from hanging on to hawsers for dear life. But the zipwire slides that ended each course were great fun, and the kids enjoyed every moment of it. I can certainly recommend that for the more adventurous souls.
