Hi all,

Going to France for the first time. In the UK its easy to work out the amount of Watts you can run on say a 16 amp site. We will be using 1000 watt kettle e.t.c. but the campsite have told us its 6 amp. What does this mean? Is it 110V!!!

Can anyone advise?

Adi

France is 240V. So 6Amps would give you 6x240=1440Watts

Hi

Not 100% sure but think it is the watts of your appliance devided by the voltage which gives you the current.

1000 watt Kettle in uk uses 1000/240volts = 4amps roughly

Im sure if i am wrong someone will correct me soon enough.

We're 6-amps supply here and this is what we give out to our campers as a part of their welcome pack.

CARAVAN/CAMPING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM – 230 VOLT.

Specimen list of appliances:      Wattage         amps (approx)

Kettle                                      2000W (2kW)               8.7

Toaster or Iron                         1300W (1.3kW)           5.6

Microwave                               1000W (1.3kW)           4.3

Colour TV 80 –                             130W               0.4 – 1.3

Hairdryer                                       300W                   1.3

Black/White TV                             100W                   0.4

Truma Ultraheat on full load    2000W setting        8.3

(Elec. Auto fan)

Truma Ultraheat on half load   1000W setting        4.2

(Elec. Slow fan)

Trumastore Water Heater                                        2.7

Air Conditioning                                                     4.0

If you’re unsure as to the amperage of a particular item, use the following equation:

Wattage = Amps, so: 2000 = 8.7

Voltage 230

The wattage of an electrical item can be found on the electrical information stamp.

The voltage here in France is the same as the UK: 230/240V.

Thanx Stu and everyone else.

The thing that is clear is that the Volts are the same, I had it into my head that it was 110v in France.

Sorted now.

Cheers and happy camping. (Despite the weather)

Adi.
