We sail in the very early hours of Thursday morning to Dunkirk for two weeks tent camping just outside Chamonix...can't wait...but think we may need to stop at a hotel/guest house for the Thursday night as we will have driven down from Leeds on the Wednesday night. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone already done this journey and thinks we can do it in one go (we share the driving) ?

We would appreciate any information or advise...

I drove from Cornwall to Dover/Calais then Chamonix by myself with one overnight stop about 20 miles into France (Bethune I think)I would say that even with 2 of you driving you would need a break. I always use www.hotelformule1.com  about 29Euros for a room for a night.

You will love Chamonix - it's a brilliant place to camp and visit. Take advantage of the free buspass that most campsites offer as it makes getting into the town a lot easier.

Thanks so much Debbie that site looks very useful and enough to pay when it's only for a quick stopover.

We are soooo looking forward to tomorrow evening when we set off...Chamonix sounds great and we will certainly get one of the passes.

Chamonix is oustanding.

Wen there last year on an adventure training package, with the Army

Could not fault it, you will love it.
