Hi..we are off to Spain in August and have planned our journey. We are looking for a stop over around the Chatearoux/Limoges area. We are not worried about the facilities other than EHU and clean toilets, also something for our kids to do.
Can anyone give us some details of campsites in this area? we have not had much luck on the net or with Alan Rogers!

We are also going down to Spain in the summer and are staying at Chateau de Leychoisier on the way, which is just north of Limoges. It's a Les Castels site and has a restaurant/snack bar, small swimming pool, lake for fishing and boating. We have stayed at other Castels sites in the past and have always been very impressed with the surroundings and standards of cleanliness etc. You should find it on the Alan Rogers website, otherwise Les Castels have their own website. Enjoy your trip!
There's a municipal at Chateauroux - stayed there a few years ago - and it doesn't stand out, so it must have been OK (we always remember the sites we would not go back to). Cheap and cheerful is how I remember it!
If you Google the name of the towns-you should come up with a camping municipal--all you need for overnight--theres genrally signposts to the campsites--
------------- Every day should be a holiday!

Hi Mackinnon2812..we have looked at that castels site and it is on our list...do you know if they take overnighters? and what are thier open/close times?
We are open to other suggestions and are aware that municipal sites abound but were after recommendations as personal experience speaks volumes !
Have to agree with Mackinnon2812, we went to Spain last year and stopped over at Chateau de Leychoisier. It's a very nice peaceful site after a very long day and fairly close to the A20 motorway - I think it was about 15 minutes away. The pool was particularly welcoming. We booked through www.select-site.com and I expect they will take independent bookings.
I wouldn't suggest trying to book anything further south as that would be too far to travel in a single day.

Worth a visit west of Limoges is the Village of Martyrs, Oradour Sur Glan a monument to the village who's residents were massacred in WW2, also as a ex lorry driver who travelled through France try the Routier Resturants I find if you buy your evening meal the Patron usually allows you to stay free of charge.
