You are all so incredibly well organised! We have booked the Chunnel and then have a month (lucky us!) to go where we feel like, not booked anything, never do - probably Loire for a Chateau or two, coast somewhere near La Rochelle for a while then across to Limousin for the lovely quiet countryside. Maybe Brittany for a while for the coast and seafood?? Depends on weather! I also fancy Burgundy for a change - but who knows?

Holidays for me these days was summed up last year by a small municipal campsite in the depths of Limousin forest, one other caravan and a tent on site, a stream tinkling past our huge pitch, a swimming lake 100 yards away, 200 yards to the tiny village with a bar where we sat having a beer in the sun watching the world go by for an hour (well, one car, and about half a dozen locals who all said bonjour!) Mind you, the site was expensive - 11 euros a night!!

Hope you all have an excellent hols!!

"giving it a second chance"

Actually, I have just realised from you saying that, that this year we will be giving a continental camping/caravanning holiday a 40th chance!!  I guess we must like something about it!!

Phil will you stop advetising the Limousin we have a cottage there and we do not want the local lake and parkland full of campers. lol. Northumberland is or was the best kept secret in Britain, the Limousin, very similar a beautiful region often overlooked.

We are off on Sunday for 6 weeks yippee, you all have a safe journey and a wonderful holiday. Talk when we get back.

"stop advertising the Limousin we have a cottage there "

Why would you want to buy one there? Suppose it was cheap 'cos no-one else would want to live there - awful area, terrible climate, dreadful food, boring landscape and not a decent campsite to be found. I avoid it like the plague. ;-)

3 nights at Camping Strandbad, Edam
3 nights at Camping Stadtplaz - Koln, Cologne
7 nights La Forge de Sainte Marie , nr Joinville
3 nights Camping Kohnenhof, Luxembourg

Spent 10 days in La Forge last year, it's a great site, the pool is really good and there is loads to do on the site if you have little ones, there are campsite activities organised, we did archery and boules and there was a campfire complete with sausages and strange campfire songs (english/Dutch/German) variations of the same song - good fun. Pitches are on terraces and are very private with the distinctive french hedges between them. I've just done a review for the site, but it's not on yet. If you've got kids there is a "theme" park really nice place nothing like Alton Towers called Nigloland about 1 hours drive away, really good for a day out. Also Grande is the largest Roman Amphitheatre in France, and is in really good condition along with the most fantastic mosaics   you will ever see.

Anyway this year

19/8 Leave Liverpool 5am to Dover 11am ferry Calais to Paris night in Hotel in Antony suburb on outer ring road by Orly Airport.

20/8 - 27/8 Chataux Le Verdoyer Nr St Pardoux Dordogne

27/8 - 30/8 L'Etang de La Brèche Saumur Loire

30/8 Guinnes Calais

31/8 Calais to Liverpool

1/9 Sleep!!!!

Actually Calais to Liverpool sounds scary with two kids, but am hoping they will just sleep most of the way.

Having written all that am now really excited and want to go now!!!

This was out third time at La Forge so we know it well - in fact our daughters are working there this year.

Edam and north Holland was great as was Cologne and Luxembourg which was a truly beautiful surprise. Back to reality.

Boulogne - Dover 2nd August

Return on the 27th

Between the dates we'll travel up to at least Inverness, maybe further, plenty of stops on campsites and with friends in between - with a tent for the first time, caravan will stay at home.

If you see a green Mercedes-van with German license-plates - well, that's us!

Just back from our motorhome trip:

1 night wild camping (near Durham) on drive from Edinburgh to Channel Tunnel

5 nights at Quatre Vents near Paris

1 night wild camping between Paris and Munich

5 nights at the municipal site a Thalkirken in Munich

3 nights at C'Savio near Venice (was supposed to be 3 nights but the site was a bit too Butlins-esque for our tastes)

2 nights at Seefeld in Austria

3 nights at Camping Auf Kengert in Luxembourg

1 night wild camping (bottom of A68) on the way home

Managed to avoid the channel tunnel chaos on Friday by picking up a Sea France ferry crossing for under £50 (6.5m motorhome and 4 people).
