Could definitely recommend the area around Troyes. The there is a large national parc just to the other side (East) of the motorway. I'm sorry I cannot recommend any particular campsite as we have never stayed there overnight, but we do use it for a really nice break in the journey that does not involve departing far off the motorway route.
The park is called Foret de l'Orient, and if you go to the lakeside port at the town of Mesnil St Pere there is a beautiful white sandy beach with showers, toilets and washing up facilities. The beach has a lifeguard for several hours a day, and opposite the beach is loads of free parking and a large grassy field with huge tables and benches for picnicing.
When heading south we often cross the channel late at night and drive as far as we can into the early hours of the morning. We either nap in an Aire on the motorway and drive to the lake early morning, or park up at the beach at Mesnil St Pere for a bit of shut-eye. We then buy baguettes from the bakery in the village and with the aid of a disposable barbecue cook sausages, bacon etc. We take it in turns to sleep while the kids swim at the beach, and leave a couple of hours later just as the locals are arriving for their lunchtime picnics and BBQs. Has to be our favourite place for breakfast!!! We have the place to ourselves and the most gorgeous views over the lake.
Often use the beach on our way back home too. After the heat and being cramped up in the car all day, it makes a welcome break to stop and swim for an hour in the lake - especially as the parking is free!
