There are many supermarkets in Spain in the popular areas, and many can be bigger inside than they look outside. You need to use the one convenient to you at the time, the prices I have found are not that much different between them. What is useful though are the indoor markets selling all fresh food, its an experience in its self, compared to the plastic packaging of modern supermarkets. Part of the fun in Spain is buying provisions, and making yourself understood with the odd word and sign language. kiev

A lot of Spanish towns have Carrefour that you'll know from France,Mercadonna are in most towns as are Lidl... There is plenty of choice and prices tend to be lower than UK .
It's all part of the holiday experience and can be a lot of fun.

Carrefour in Benidorm is open till 10 pm 7 nights a week.
Most supermercados (supermarkets) in holiday areas are open 7 days a week, Sundays only till 2 ish, but do'nt expect them all to speak English, It is their country so they expect you to speak Spanish. It can be quite a gamble buying stuff in supermarkets (do you know the Spanish for Yorkshire puddings)?. It's all part of the holiday fun????. Ed.

In the northern (Basque) regions like Bilbao, Eroski is a good, cheap supermarket. One of my favourites there was boxes of frozen prawns, the big, crevette style ones, at less than half the price of home - fantastic for a barbie treat ! One odd thing I didnt like was the mushrooms. In that area, not sure about elsewhere, they tend to be grown on fine gravel and it gets under the mushroom tops - you end up with bits of grit in your mouth - horrid.

They also have Eroski in Marbella so it is not only in the north. Another one is Alcampo (Spanish Auchan) You could try putting in the name of the supermarket on Google and see what you come up with.Usually they will have a drop down menu on their home page for you to search for the nearest one.
