Hi, does anyone know if I need to tell the ferry company that we are changing our car and so the registration will be different to the one I originally booked a passage for?  The new car is a bit longer as well, but not a huge difference.

Most ferry companies term the car length as up to 5 metres. Most cars come within this so you will be ok. If the reg No. is on the booking form then a quick phone call should sort it out.

Best to ring them up - you shouldn't have to pay extra for the change, but it will help you get through the check-in quicker as your registration number is part of the check-in process.  We have a company car, which is regularly changed, and we have done both - let them know, and 'just turned up' - it's definitely better to let them know.

Thanks.  I just don't want them to charge me £40 just to change the registration on the form!  Last time I had to change something that's what they charged me.  Can't remember now what it was for.

I have changed my car in February and rang LD Lines who we are travelling with and they charged us £10 amendment fee, we have also upgraded to a folding camper from a trailer tent both car and folding camper where still in the same size as we originally booked. Best to phone just in case.

I have the problem? of my company car being changed every 3 to 4 months, so when I book the crossing i give the current registration but I always turn up with a different car and consequently a different registration number,

In the early days I always used to notify them, but since about 2000 I gave up notifying them and never had any problems.

Just turn up, as long as the crossings been paid for and the change is not too outragious they're not bothered

the ferry companys are never to bothered when you arrive they just need to get the ferrys loaded and away, security is a little upgraded from years ago,

we have often, when returning from work abroad just turned up on any day, before or after our crossing ,and as long as we have a ticket were waved on to the next boat

one time we almost got onto a different ferry company, just nipped in the different line, was caught out as we went up the ferry ramp....lol

We changed our car last year and when I rang about it,the bloke said if I wanted to I could change the details but he would have to charge me,He said we could do it at the port.We did that and there were no probs,Save your money and do it at the port. They don't bother checking anyway!! We changed our car 2 weeks ago and we go next week,we'll just tell them when we book in!

I changed my car this spring, unfortunatly after I had already booked with LD Lines, don't get me wrong I was glad I went with them, can't fault them, they were absolutley great. It cost me £10 though as it was an ammendment to my original booking.

Do they check the number plates as you roll up to the check in booth? I don't know but I didn't want to risk my crossing for the sake of a tenner. Still, saved about £200 on Brittany Ferries prices so c'est la vie!

I always tell them I'll be in a rental car if I think my registartion is likely to change between booking & sailing. It removes the hassle.
