I’m looking to book a stopover in the B&B hotel, Parc des Expos. I tried calling them to enquire whether it can accommodate us (3 cars and caravans). They have plenty of rooms but I want to ensure we can park in their (advertised) secure car park. They told me to call back after  5 which I have done twice to speak to the hotel direct, but I can’t get through

Has anyone stayed here before? Does the car park take caravans? How does this work if we arrive out of hours … I have visions of the security gate slicing my van in 2!!! Is it a decent hotel? Can we get food and drinks in the surrounding area?

Many thanks

I think you might be pushing it to get three cars and caravans into the car park.  These hotels are often not that big and don't have massive car parks - just enough for the amount of cars they expect to spend the night.     This weekend is a busy weekend for travellers in France, and the hotel may be full - in which case all the parking will be required for cars.   We have had our van on budget hotel car parks, but we've been the only van and it's been later in the season.  You may find parking around the area on some of the side roads, as Parc d'Expositions sounds the typical sort of area they are situated in.  We've done this too, without any problems, but I know some people wouldn't be happy.   B&B are a typical budget hotel chain, a bit like our Travelodge - and usually the areas where they are situated have chain restaurants as well - sometimes a Buffalo Grill or similar, but sometimes just MuckDonalds.  However, you'll probably find a nearby supermarket with a cafeteria open.

Haven't actually stayed in the Rouen B&B but have stayed in them elsewhere.

Another possibliity could be an overnight stop at a site near Rouen.

Last week, we did this en route from Royan to Zeebrugge at a lovely little municipal site in a gorgeous village, St Georges du Vievre.   http://www.camping-normand.com.   Unbelievable, every pitch is a full service pitch, and the cost is £8 per night!   It's 5 minutes walk into the village which has boulangerie, hotel with restaurant, other local shops etc..   It's only 10Km off the motorway too.  I'd definitely recommend it.

There is a Municipal at Pont de l'Arche which is south of Rouen, we paid about £6 per nightwith electric in june on our way to and back from the Loire. Again, 2 minute walk to the centre of town.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, due to the amount of 'stuff' we'll be taking popping into a muncipal is not as easy as you would have thought. To get into the caravan will mean taking everything out, which means putting the awning up to house the stuff. This would also have to be done in the dark!!
