On leaving home, found that the battery had given up the ghost so couldn’t use the mover; there was a Caravan dealers enroute, so a quick visit for a replacement.   Arrived at Dover with just under an hour to spare.   Norfolk Line crossing to Dunkerque can be recommended though Dunkirque docks facilities leave a lot to be desired. Visit to Auchan the following morning and then headed south via Belgium and into Germany.   Overnighted on a Service Station (Gasp, Horror) near Ulm. Superb facilities and dedicated Caravan area.
Arrived Camping Nattersee early afternoon and set up.   New PDQ? awning eventually erected. Lunch and a rest. Nattersee is a very well run site, with good clean facilities.   They have extended it this year with large serviced pitches which have grass as yet. Most of the older site pitches are on gravel with grass where it can grow.
Stocked up the following morning and then walk in afternoon.    Thursday, blue sky. Walk planned via Götzens to Mutters. Half way along having lunch when a rumble of thunder brought our attention to the Black cloud behind us. Walk cut short, we were 20 minutes from Campsite. Thunderstorm hit us in 10.   Who carries waterproofs on a day with wall to wall blue sky?   Only 10 minutes of someone throwing buckets of water at us turned the path into a river.   The sun came out and it was like walking through a Turkish bath.   We got dried out at the van but the rain came back a couple of hours later for the evening and much of the following morning. A trip into Innsbruck for lunch.   Following day was back to being holiday weather and so it remained for the rest of our stay.   We did manage to complete the walk to Mutters a couple of days later.
Moved on to Camping Bled in Slovenia. Two hour wait to join the queue to get through a tunnel on the A10 in Austria and they still had the cheek to charge us to use it.
More about Slovenia when I get back on line.

Greetings from damp Gloucestershire. Sounds like a great holiday so far.

PS as for who carries her waterproofs when the sky is wall to wall blue - my wife (or rather I do on her behalf) together with a light jumper, a heavy jumper, a pack-a-mac and a change of trousers). She cites the phrase about no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong clothes.

He he he, I have lost count of the number of times I have gone out in Austria and France in glorious weather and come back in a storm!  Just watch the locals, if you see them scurrying away join 'em!

hello from Scotland.
Heading for Lake Bled in 2 weeks time. Any advice would be appreciated. New to caravanning but toured Europe on motorbike, sometimes with a trailer, for 15 holidays. Did you find out what caused the 2 hour delay on the A10?

Only just seen your message re Lake Bled
Our Passports were checked before entry into the Karawanken Tunnel to cross the border into Slovenia.   The first town visible was Jesenice which appeared slightly austere with its utilitarian blocks of flats.   A few miles down the road was the sign for Bled, our destination. Reception at Camping Bled was swift and efficient. The first thunderstorm of our visit stopped just as we arrived at our pitch which was of ample size.   (PDQ? Awning went up a little quicker this time).
Camping Bled is situated at the west end of Lake Bled in a deep, wooded, blind valley with 250ft cliffs in places. It has a very quick turnover of pitches, in fact in the 9 days we have been here, virtually all the pitches round us have changed at least twice(I know I can upset people, but………)   The four toilet blocks on the site are of various ages.   They vary in cleanliness from excellent to immaculate.   The site is always tidy the staff friendly, supermarket well stocked, restaurant very good (although 1 Euro for a cup of coffee seems a bit pricy, 90cents if black)
Slovenia is described as small green country. It could be because it rained at some point on each of the first 6 days we have been here.   Yesterday and so far today are hot and sunny.
The surrounding area is impressive with deep gorges (Vintgar, 300ft sheer cliffs about 10ft wide at its narrowest), lakes (Bohinj, with its crystal clear waters is a must) forests, caves, mountains.   Lots of small villages to visit.

Hi Rostrevor. Our daughter and boyfriend have just returned today from a 10 day stay at Camping Bled so they were there at the same time as you. Will not speak to her until tomorrow night (she lives in Germany). Very impatient to hear how they got on as it was my idea!

She said Slovenia was brilliant! English widely spoken, very good supermarkets and places to eat out, which are not expensive. They went white water rafting, paragliding, caving, down a gorge, up mountains etc. Some good companies that organize these for you at reasonable cost. Am hoping to get her to write a review for Camping Bled which I will post soon.
