Could anyone reccommend an english run campsite in southern brittany? I have camped in france before but I am concerned about the lack of security on french sites, particularly the parks with large waterslides and nightclubs etc., We just want a nice quiet campsite within easy reach of a nice beach.
Any comments would be appreciated.

there are lots of great sites in Brittany, with security and peace and quiet.
don't understand why you should think that a british run site would be a better option
if you are so worried - look for municipal sites which are often smaller, we've never had any difficulty in finding smaller sites, just avoid anything patronised by Eurocamp etc

But itīs all right now, I learned my lesson well.

There are thousands of lovely campsites in France, run by all sorts of people. You don't have to pick the "biggies" and put up with the chavs. The stuff in the papers about the people from Wootton Bassett in their campervan was about people who park up in the **motorway services**.
If you want a few sites, not all near the beach but with pools and rivers to swim in, click on my profile and look at the sites I've reviewed. We've been camping for nearly 30 years and never been robbed. Though my son did leave a t-shirt by the pool a couple or years ago and it wasn't there when we went back!

Thanks Liz and Ricky for your replies, I have been to the vendee and camped at a site that we booked through "french life". We had problems when trying to complain about vandalism at night time. All this has left a bitter memory but we would like to go back as we love the country.
There was a posting on here about a British run site in the Vendee - and it seemed the worst ever!! It doesn't guarantee a well-run site, just because it's not French! Just ask for a good site recommendation, and you'll get lots - many people on here are very well-travelled.
This is an English Owned site in France just south of the Loire that I can fully recommend if you feel you want to try it before venturing back into French owned sites.
Or you could try http://www.loire-gites.com/web/default.asp - again in the Loire. Very peaceful and totally secure. Fantastic site. However, we've never had a problem with any of the sites we've stayed at in France. Always found the site owners to be very helpful be they French, Dutch or English. Its a shame that you had a bad experience but try not to let it put you off returning. If you only look at British run sites this will seriously limit where you can stay, Claire
We have never had any problems with security on any of the sites we have stayed on in France. This year we were at L'Etang de la Breche in the Loire and thought it was brilliant. I am terribly scatterbrained and we went out a few times leaving things like my Ipod and the camera etc sitting on the table outside the tent and they were always there when we came home. My best advice is to avoid the mega large sites no matter who they are run by. If you stick to small sites you should be fine. Also, get to know your neighbours and look out for each other.
